"The Babel fish is a small, yellow and leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy recieved not from its own carrier but from the aroung it. It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with."
"The practical upshot of all this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language."
Can anyone guess?
Geez I must be bored.....

Ah - the HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy, that takes me back. I read the books and watched the TV series on the ABC, brilliant casting in that too, everyone just as they were in print.
Ford Prefect
Zaphodd Beeblebrox
Trillion
Dent Arthur Dent
Slarty-Bartfast
The eternally sad and pathetic voice of the spaceship's computer.
The sunglasses that sense impending doom and darken the len's so
the wearer cannot see their dire fate approaching....

I can't believe you forgot to mention:
Marvin (the paranoid robot) & Deep Thought
I wouldn't mind getting hold of the TV series i've never seen it, but knew it existed.
