4K fuelling.... Thu, 29 July 2004 03:40 Go to next message
Hi all,

I've narrowed the problem with our KE70 losing all power to the fuel delivery... It's getting spark, and definetly getting air Razz

Is there any way I can narrow it down more, as in, narrow it down to which pump is causing the issues? I suspect it's the mechanical fuel pump on the block itself causing the problem, it is 20 years old!

Before I spend any money on a new pump / pump from a wrecker, is there anything else I should check?

Also, while i'm at a wrecker, is there anything else I should grab? It's a 4K-C so it has crappy emmisions systems all over the place. I might grab myself a 3k head if the price is right. The engine is due for a rebuild Smile

Sit a tin of fuel in the engine bay and run the pump from that. It will eliminate a blockage in your tank as an issue.

Thats a good idea...

But the only problem is it happens after some amount of time, like 1 hour of driving... it cuts in and out a bit, then totally dies (tacho still reading RPM though).

It's as if it's starved of fuel, and bubbles are getting in....

perhaps your float levels are set incorrectly. gregories manual tells you how to set the carby up properly. could be a clogged line, clogged fuel filter, or yes the mech pump wearing out. thats the only pump on the whole car except the oil pump. rebuild kits for the fuel pumps are usually 90 bucks. pumps can be had for 20-30 at the wreckers

Hmmm, maybe your tank vent is blocked and after too long driving is creating a vacuum. Try removing the seal from the cap or use one of those plastic emergency caps that never seal properly. See what that does for the problem.

Hmmm....

So there isnt a fuel tank pump?

I've not really worried about the fuel side of this car yet... not until now! Plus this is the only carby car i've owned, and up until recently i've not bothered to take care of it Razz

I'll try those suggestions this weekend, should keep me busy!

Thanks guys!
