Thanx for the reply,
How much is that motul 300v stuff...

Valvoline durablend ai???
Wonder how long that would last me in my engine. it doesn't burn through it or anything, i got some from work the other day but it was like Fully synthetic, the ones they use for the new car servicing.
I'll be doin the oil change tonight, anything i should do apart from drain the oil and change the oil filter, then put new oil in?

Regards
Adrian

86 Celica hey.
20W-50 I think is a good balance, but it's probably too late to say.
Pennzoil, Penrite, and if you can get it, Fuchs, are all good.
Castrol Magnatec I'm a little skeptical about...

Okies castrol magnatec will be shit in your car dude...

Best bet would be to get genuine toyota oil... I use it in both my Rolla's and it's sweet... The stuff that I use is 20/50 SJ/CF and comes in a 5 litre bottle for like $15 - $20...

Cause I work at toyota, I get it for like $10 but I think it's around the $20 mark ratail...

It's damn cheap and good quality... And with the money you save on the oil, you can upgrade and get a genuine filter too which are worth the extra cash...

Don't use Penzoil... its apparently pretty shit over here and is not the same as the penzoil blends you get overseas.

I personally like the Penrite HPR15 and I've recently gotten hooked on Gulf Western oils as its good oil and I can get it easily in 20L drums.

I wouldn't put an oil thinner than 15W in your car... its too thin, I tried it once in my corolla cause I got a bottle for free but it was too thin for the engine and it wouldn't keep pressure properly.

ima shell person myself... shell for everything, oils, fuels and waht ever else they do. i have always found them to be the right blend in every respect

if i cant get shell then i go castrol (not magnatec)

and i dont go synthetic at all or at least try not to as now they have blends

and finally IF ITS GOOD FOR FERRARI THEN ITS GOOD FOR ME Very Happy

Apparently full synthetics generally don't last as long as the longer polymer chains used in them break down quicker.

i always use the shell 15/50 semi synth (green bottle) about $25-28 for 5L

just about everywhere around me seems to have it. the celi and the mr2 both seem to like it well enough.

fully synthetic oils should only be used in your car if they have been used since the car was new. you should really on use semi synthetic.
i also agree the toyota oil is good, and i only ever use their filters cause they are top quality. that and i have about 100 left from when i worked at toyota Very Happy
im using gulf western oil in my car ATM cause thats what we use at work. good enough i reckon.

Maybe we should make a new sticky about oils and fuels

maybe we could write up recommendations for the age of ur engine/type bla bla bla..
And fuel recommendations, whether optimax is worth it, which company has better fuel than the rest etc....

Just a suggestion!
