For more stopping power for an RA65 Celica, what do you suggest ?
Fronts
Any sugestions ?
Rears
Swap the rear drums to discs from MA61 celisupra ? Will this make much of a difference ?
How much would these brake upgrades cost ?
Thanks

Try looking for upgrades to the MA61 for the front, lots of different options are available, nothing exactly off the shelf.
As for the rear, easiest way to get MA61 rear is to fit the whole rear, bonus is you get LSD too.

Norbs is doing the simplest swap using MX83 struts/BA Falcon Rotors and R33 Skyline calipers.
The rears is probably harder, but would need to swap over a MA61 rear end as RA65's are drum rears and don't have the brackets to fit a rear caliper ?
I have some rear discs and calipers from my MA61 if you want them ?

What would be a more worthwhile conversion ?
front or rear convo ?
Would he be looking to get the parts new as opposed to 2nd hand from a wrecker ? ... Would the bits easy to come by ?

Fronts do 70 to 80% of the work, so the frontts would be it.
How you source it depends on yoyur budget.
Do a search and you'll find quite a bit of infp on it as it is underway by a few people, and the threads lists some costs as well.

DIBS!!
michael - my 'spare' dodgy supra XX rear end is all 'japanese' with unko calipers and rotors. id REALLY like to get some AUS stocker bits to measure things up with...
LES - i have an ENTIRE rear ma61 x-member with diff, traling arms and brakes etc available if youre interested. wont be 'out' for a little while, but is definitely up for grabs at some point. even includes a 3.9:1 LSD
cheers

hmm does not sound that easy ... godddam ..
norbie ... how much did all the parts cost all up or the front brake conversion ? it was mentioned that the front had a 5 stud patterm ... does the ma61 have 4/5 stud pattern oriiginally ?
my celica has 4 stud pattern, so basically if i am right, i would do the front brake conversion per norbie, get ma61 discs for the rear and assuming that ma61 has 5 stud pattern ..
how right or wrong am i ?

So, having read the 5 page BBK monster post and the other
Is a R33 caliper a better choice than the R32 ?
Thanks,
Mitch.
(Shortcutting the MA61 brake upgrade knowledge circuit !)

Um, I think it is now 6 page s.....
R33's have a longer leg than Z32's(to account for the bigger disc), other than that they are the same
les, MA61 is 4 stud std, so mitch is right, if you do the front MX83 upgrade, you need to match the rears !!!
Cheers

Yup. If you're converting from drum brakes at the same time, it might be a sensible option to grab the hubs/discs/calipers from an MS123 Crown and install it on the Celica control arms, assuming there's a bracket there to support the calipers? Can't remember how it all bolts together now I think about it. But anyway, that way you'll get 5 studs and disc brakes all at the same time, without having to re-drill anything.

I think I remember some one else saying before that to get the discs on the back, the swingarms have to be chnaged as well ?
