MA61 5MEU, generally running like crap?

Ok yeah its a peice of crap engine to begin with. But the engine has started to run really shithouse lately. Its drinking even worse than a normal 5MEU does. Its had the AFM changed, plugs changed, new leads and dizzy cap, but it just doesnt seem to help? Anyone got ideas?

It sounds like that either the cold starter not working or that the head gasket is havings its last legs.

you can easily rule out the cold start injector by taking it out when it's cold to see if it's working. mine is the same, really crap when cold, i think it's got a blown head gasket or a crack in the head. either way it's gonna cost a fair bit to replace. sounds like it's time for you to get a conversion!

the best idea is replace it with somethign decent
do not, i repeat, do not get it rebuilt...ever.
for what it cost me to rebuild the peice of shit, blacksupra put a 2jzge in his car(price included manual tranny too!  )

my 5me runs like an absolute turd when its cold, but the headgasket and compression is all fine... i think its the cold start injector....
mind you, it backfires between shifts when revved hard.... but mechanic says its the exhaust, as the engine is fine....

i just changed exhausts on mine didn't really make a difference. i've gone from shitty, dodgerised, beaten up standard to 2.5 inch from they-piece back. i've gone to 2 inch over the diff, this makes it so it's loud, but not the shit fart loud like little pulsars with a big 3.5 inch cannon on standard exhaust. it's great, it sounds pretty beefy.
