icon5.gif  where to buy guitar strings in baulkham hills Sat, 14 September 2002 05:16 Go to next message
hey, any guitarists here?

if so, can anyone tell me where i can buy guitar strings in baulkham hills?

i would check the yellow pages, but i'd rather go to a guitar shop with a good reputation, so i dont have to suffer listening to imbecile salespeople who don't know anything.

thanks
ryan

thanks mate!

it's just, i say this: "i want the lighest gauge acoustic steel strings you've got, but still with a roundwound g". the reply is "what do you mean roundwound" on two separate occasions!
needless to say i haven't given return business to those shops!

thanks again,

ryan

haha funny stuff

but i have to say, they are just strings, so what if they dont know what a round wound string is, just tell them, buy the strings and be on your way. I would understand if it was a matter of u leaving your guitar in for repairs or service, then yeah definitly find a place where they know what they are doin.

u just have to remember that not everyone can know everything about everything, the salesman's knowledge has nothing to do with quality of the 10 gauge D'addrios u buy off him...

hi guys,
judging by the replies there are a few guitars guys out there so I thought I'd put a question out to you.

How much would you expect to pay for a new/near new Fender Squier Strat? with matching 10w amp?

thanks,
Steve.

and another quick one..what are the metal strings that are bound but smooth and flat called??

If you want good service, Guitarfactory at para... ask for Rob Mestric. Or you can go to Maxx music which is in castle hill, near the tav, or behind holden, packard av 3.

I play guitar for a living so if i've got some good contacts. Also go through 2 packs of strings a week so getting a box of 10 is the best option.

If u need a fender package, talk to me, i can get u 30% off at most places.

well 15 hours of teaching face to face guitar , 4-6 gigs @ 3 hours hard playing.. a good set of strings looses its twang if your fussy very quickly.

Flatwound, I think (maybee). Never used 'em - they're supposed to be liked by Jazz guitarists.

definitely jazz strings

they're really easy on yer fingers if you just play guitar casually, and dont get to build up callouses like more constant players.
a mate thinks they have shit tone, but thats a 2nd hand account.
apparently they sound whack on bass!

thanks for the suggestions too, guys!

btw what sorta guitar styles are yer all into?

I'm into Shred.

that is Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine, Michael Romeo, George Bellas, Marty Friedman, Joey Tafolla, Yngwie, Paul Gilbert, Frank Gambale, Dimebag Darrel, Michael Lee Firkins, Steve Vai, Al Dimeola and a few other 'has beens' from the 80's & early 90's.

Also I wanna let you twangers know that we're close to securing Joe Satriani at the Enmore Theatre in October so all those interested, let me know and I'll see if I can get us all a big group discount.

A little tip to extend the life of your strings, is to use this stuff called Maxsolve. it's like an elecrical component lubricant spray and a bit on a cloth and a wipe will reduce oxidization. a little on your locking tremelos every once in a while is also good. My dad gets it for me from Caltex but I'm sure you can buy it and similar products retail.

I noticed new Martin acoustic guitar strings selling for $8 a set on ebay but like luke, i recommend you buy them in sets of 10.
