Hi all. Yes, I've searched through the forums many a time, but still have a few questions:

1) On a R crossmember, what are the best mounts to use for the best (i.e. lowest) position?

2) Front sump is definetly the one I need?

3) Why does the front swaybar need replacing, and what companies already have the plans for front sway to suit (whiteline & kmac?)

4) Better to rebuild stock turbo (estimated price???), or just buy another secondhand one?

5) Where can you easilly buy gaskets, seals, belts etc? I normally get parts from repco or sparco, but remember being told that repco only sell parts for local engines (2TG? 3TG? They must be imports, not listed)

6) What's the general handling consensus of a 1G swap?

Thanks Smile
Stefan

1) From memory, I used Hilux mounts and chopped them down. Remember that the engine sits at an angle. Can't remember the actual angle though. 14 degrees?

2) Yes, unless you want to modify the mid-sump. It'll need a LOT of modification though and I'm not sure it can be done.

3) The swaybar and front-sump fight for the same space.

4) Just buy a second hand one. Rebuilding a turbo would prolly cost more than the engine itself. Smile

5) Toyota sell the bits. Castle Hill and Penrith Toyota are both good in this department. Remember, Toyota reuse a lot of parts so many of them can be bought from your local shop if you know what to get. I think the timing belt is the same as the 4A. Oil filter is same as 3S and 1MZ. The list goes on.

6) Well, the 1G-GTE was heaps lighter than the 21R-C. But it is longer. The only way to know is to get a front/rear weight split before and after. Now we just need to find someone who's just about to do a 1G swap to take these measurements for us............ Smile Smile Smile

1)For the best mounts, you really want to fabricate your own, I have heard of people using 2 left hand 18r mounts or something but apparently it sits the engine higher.

2)The front sump is a better setup, but won't fit in the R series crossmember. Best just to look for a GA70 supra Gen3. This will be a mid sump and will fit in with some minor adjustments.

3) don't know of this one. It may be a problem with the t series cross member.

4)Rebuilds are expensive on any turbo and 1G's have 2 of them. You can pick up a set from the importers for about $400 or a complete second engine for $700. Figure double that price for a rebuild. Why bother rebuilding them.

5)Find a toyota dealer in Tassie that stocks import parts. Other than that my local one in Castle Hill has heaps of bits on the shelf for them. Get your Toyota dealer to order them in.

6)People complain a lot about the "added weight" and "moving the C of G forward" but when it all comes down to it, the weight doesn't make much of a difference. A 1G celica with well setup suspension will run rings around any celica with an average set up.

The RA6x is different from the RA2x in this regard.
Mid-sump will fit an RA2x with small modifications.
Front-sump will fit RA6x as a plug and play.

Thanks both.

Next question: do whiteline or kmac or anyone have the designs of a modded front swaybar from previous modders so you can just order one? Or do they do them separately on a custom basis and not keep the plans.... Razz

Best person to ask is KMan. He's done a 1G swap into an RA65 recently.
I'm thinking that they don't have pre-built bars. Wouldn't think the market is there for that sort of thing.

Will do. Pre-built bars is not what I meant, I just thougth if a few people in the past have had them made then they might have still have the plans - pretty sure I remember someone saying they had to take their stock swaybar and/or car in for them to measure up to make a different one.

Yeah, that's what I did. Took my car in along with the old swaybar. They measured everything up and a few days later they had one custom made for me.
