Front cut woes Tue, 03 August 2004 01:58 Go to next message
Hmm

Ive been ringing around trying to find someone who can deliver.. But most dont want to deliver to a house due to complications unloading it.

(My homes drive way is on a slight upwards incline before it goes to an even path which makes it impossible for these towies)

Can anybody recommend a few names?

How the hell do you guys get it off?

thanks Evil or Very Mad

Rent a truck with a small crane. It should be able to get your half cut fairly close to the house.

There is a million and one ways to do this. Possibly the cheapest thing to do is ask them to load the half cut onto a pallet. Rent your self a little trailer, and pallet jack it on, and off when it arrives to your home.

My front cut was delivered to my driveway via tilt-tray truck. The towie just tilted the tray until the front cut slid off. Friends of mine have had their front cuts delivered in the same way, including one who had a very steep uneven driveway. Just go through all the towies in the yellow pages until you find one willing to do the job.

YEP - then to move it about, add wheels and rope, and you have yourself a moving front cut.

Or do what I did.....roll it off a trailer.

I rolled it off a 1.5 meter high flat bed truck down some steep ramps. Luckily the two poles sticking out of the sills (that we used to manouvere it)dug into the soft ground just off the concrete apron near the shed. It lifted the half-cut off the ground abot 2 feet, coming to earth with a thud. Nothing broken to my complete astonishment.

My halfcut was on a trailer. We tied it to the transplant car with rope. I then drove the trailer forward. It bounced directly towards and into the transplant car. Luckily nothing was damaged.

If you'd tied it to the front of the transplant car...and opened the bonnet.... why then it may have jumped straight in, saving the half tank of petrol cost component of the conversion Laughing

When I bought my 1st half cut, I phoned a few transport companies, and organised a flat bed truck with a tail gate loader. I arranged with the half cut supplier to put the half cut on a pallett. After doing all the other delivery drops around Canberra, the guy turned up at my house. The driver used a hand pallet truck, moved the half cut to the tailgate loader, lowered it to the ground, off the tailgate loader and positioned the half cut exactly where I wanted it! Too Bloody Razz easy with a little bit of forethought and planning!

reagrds Chuck.

Mine was similar to Chuck. I had a trailer we needed it on cos it had been delivered to the wrong address. I made sure they had one of those trucks with the adjustable back tray. The engine/gearbox was on a pallet. They lowered it to the height of the trailer, we chocked up the back the trailer with bricks to stop it tipping and used a pallet jack to shift it across, too easy.

Couple of times I've done it.

If the front suspension is intact, simply bolt on wheels, hire a car trailer and wheel it on, then off again.

Or if its a front wheel drive hook up a fuel supply & drive it home Laughing

What was the half cut?
I am in the process of trying to do this but the freight company seems to think that a tailgate loader won't be able to move the cut! (ST205 front cut)

You found one Toobs?

If you want, I'm still using the ute, & I've got a set of ST205 front hubs at home, plus some steel rim + tyres that'll fit over them.
If you want to organise hiring of a car trailer, I'll tow it for you.

Other option is for the truck to have a HIAB crane.
Tell them the weight to be lifted is about 800kg. This can generally be lifted by the smaller HIAB's as long as it doesn't have to extend the jib too far (further out means less capacity)
