Ok Explain that one again. Basically, yes you are right, you can put a supra 5 speed behind a 1g-gte provided you have the correct bellhousing. Do you?
As for this other engine. the 1g-gue that you have found. Is it an auto or a manual?
Also, you will need to mess around with the fly wheel setup between whether it's a manual or an auto.
But yes it is possible to put a supra 5 speed behind a 1g-gte, and I even have the clutch here for one.

what i need to know is can i replace the auto on the 1GGTE with the old auto off a 1G-EU which is out of a GA 61 supra ie making my 1GGTE MA61 supra an automatic ( it is much cheaper to make an auto than a manual)

Yeah, its probably doable...but why dont you just use the auto from the front cut..???
The auto from the GA61 will be a dodgy 3 speed with overdrive.

Mk2 Supra's come with a 4-speed auto transmission... not a 3-speed with overdrive. Yes, 4th gear is overdriven, but it's integrated into the box - therefore it is a 4-speed box.
I agree though, use the auto from the front cut as it will probably be stronger for turbo duty.

Are you sure all the boxes are the same? I'm pretty sure this Mk2 Celica XX I was looking at had the 3-speed I was describing, it had a 1GEU and a bloody T-series IRS. It was a very poverty pack Mk2.

By three speed with O/D I mean it had 3 speeds and an overdrive button...

3-speed with overdrive implies that it's a 3-speed box with an external overdrive unit. Some older auto boxes were set up this way, but not the one in the Supra - it's a proper 4-speed.
The overdrive button on the Supra simply activates a solenoid inside the box which disables 4th gear.

This may seem like a stupid question, but why would you want to disable a gear?

I used to hit the overdrive disable button in my Supra all the time. When you're cruising around the suburbs at 60km/h or less, you don't really want the trans shifting into 4th all the time. As soon as you want to accelerate anywhere it has to kick back to 3rd, then when you're done it slips into 4th again... so it's hunting back and forth all the time, which can get annoying. The solution is to disable 4th, and just cruise around in 3rd!
