4G64 is the 2.4 litre 4cyl. Being a commercial it won't be cheap. There's also a 2.0 and a diesel (rarer).

Being a van, I can attest this is an f'ing slut. Vans are stupid to work on, let alone replace an entire engine.

Not sure what Tassie does, but engine changes require a blue slip. This new engine number is then put onto the green slip (third party property insurance).
Watch the paperwork trail on this. In the event of an accident, or going to sell it later, it does not pay to have numbers that don't match the documentation.

I did an engine swap in a L300 express a few years ago its actually pretty easy, you just put the thing up on ramps, pull out the seats and the barrier to the back and get your engine crane in through the side door and pull the engine out that way.
A easy conversion for them is the engine out of the nimbus it is a little bit bigger (1.8 litre i think)in capacity and the only real mod that needs to be done to it is to cut one of the water housing pipe thingys to convert it from FWD to RWD.
Hope this helps a bit.
Cheers

I'm gunna get a mechanic to do this for me.
All i have to do is pay him and yes i plan to do the all the documention properly .
I think i can claim it as a bussines expense so he won't notice it .
I've got till the end of the olympic game to finish it.
Is it do able ???
He never drives the van so he won't notice it but he will notice it if it's in the yard and doesn't start.

Was the original engine carby or EFI.
It'll either say 2.0 or 2.4 on the tailgate.
If its EFI, it had the 2.4 engine. A bitch to change if it caught fire because most of the wiring running the EFI will have been burnt.
If its 2.0, its a carby & should be a hell of a lot easier.
Considering what you have to do, I'd just be putting an original engine in.
Also, would he believe you if you just told him that it started rolling away on the starter motor without the engine on, causing it to catch fire? This would cost you nothing, maybe...
If you play it right, he may even thank you for not letting the whole thing burn.

Are you sure it actually needs an engine and not just some cosmetic bits, an engine fire does not normally damage the engine imnternals but will often only melt things like manifold and carbu, wiring and dizzy cap etc, get your mechanic mate to check it first you have time on your side and this could lessen the paperwork etc as you might not need to cahnge te whole thing. Believe me you will need to fix lots of thje wiring loom, and it can be bitch of a job.

Fucksake. If it's petrol it'll be the 4G64 EFI 2.4 or the "something else" carb 2.0. Lift the engine cover and look for fuel injection/carburettor. It's not hard.

If it did this all by itself it will be the 4G64 motor. You should only need the wiring loom to fix it as this was a common problem with these vans, unless the fire was real bad.
If it does need a motor then i hope its the 8 valve motor and not the 16 valve one as they can be a real bitch to find, and no the ones out of the Tritons won't fit.(16V only)

Nah i can keep it if i want. But if i don't he will chuck it away or auction it off.
My punishment was i have to work a full week unpaid.
But if i work the weekend i get the van as payment so i'm thinking .
350 Chev conversion. I've seen it done before i'm thinking of giving it a go. I've also seen 1 with a 502ci big block motor in it but it's waaaaaaaay to big to me anythng more than a show car/van.
either way if i work the weekend witch i most prolly will i'll have the van.

but there is a few different engines series, not just 3 or 4,
but i thought a while ago, why not do a 4G63 convo out of a VR4, i.e, DOHC turbo

Mr DOHC Can u imagine a white express van with a big shiny intercooler mounted behind the bullbar ? It would look soo try hard. and i don't think i could fit 1 infront of the radiator.
EvilJack
My old man would love you, the last 3 cars he has had whenever something goes wrong with a motor he puts a holden motor in
1) VW campervan he put a 202 in that.
2)landcruiser we put a 253 V8 in that cuz the toyota motor needed a rebuild.
3)Nissan 720 did the diesel 2 petrol conversion and used a 202.
I want something that will people will hear and look around for a cool car but only see some white van driving past.
