Howdy.
is it possible to convert a stock 2T to a 2TG? I've heard that they use the same bottom end. Also heard that mods to the oil system are needed too: but what?
AND... I know my little 2T is a single cam (mounted on side I think), but if I change the head to the twin cam head does that mean that I have to alter that part of the engine to accomodate the extra cam?
Very confused.......HELP!!

yes you can put a 2tg head on a 2t single cam block.
there is a big thread of a compilation of all the information about these motors floating around.
i can't really remember off the top of my head what you have to do, but yes you do have to change something on how the oil flows. i guess that wasn't really that much help, but better than just linking to search........

Yes it can be done, but you have to swap a whole lot more than just the head to make it work. In fact you need so many 2T-G specific parts you're much better off just buying a complete 2T-G and swapping it in.

Many years ago when I cracked the block on my 2TG I sourced a 2T block and rebuilt the 2TG engine around that.
The only mod necessary was to block off the oil galleries that fed oil to the bearings where the 2T cam was located in the block. This was done by removing the bearings and then having them pressed back in with the bearings oil hole offest to the oil hole in the block.
The only other thing I can think of was to use a blanking plate to cover where the 2T had its mechanical fuel pump mounted.
Apart from that it was all a straight swap. This setup ran great for well over a 100 000km.
But yeah use ALL 2TG stuff and only 2T block and crank bearing caps.
I am assuming you are only trying to do this so that you can keep your engine number the same by using your existing 2T block??

Thanx guys.
I just wanted to do what was easiest on my wallet.
I've so many 2Tg Heads for sale and wondered if they would be an easy fit.
I guess I'll try find a complete 2TG.
Thanx again.
