Power steering gone mongy! Wed, 04 August 2004 12:56 Go to next message
Was driving about tonight, and heard this weird ass noise in the car. It kinda sounded like my tire was popped and it was flapping, then about 10 meters before I pulled over it stopped. Surely a flapping of rubber sound.

Took a look at my car seemed fine. Popped the hood and everything looked OK, engine was sounding great. I get back on the road and notice the steering is swerving to the left.

Its always done this but towards the side the car was leaning to. I drove on some leveled road and noticed the steering was pulling heavily to the left.

Anyone got clue to what happened? Is my power steering fucked or can it be fixed easily?

lift car and inspect steering rack, knuckles, associated balljoints.

also check steering related suspension parts (swing/control arms) moving htem about to hear or feel for stiffness or rough spots

steering pulling to one side wold probably be wheel alignment and/or brakes - probably very little to do with P/steer.

problems with p/steer usually manifest themselves as extremely stiff steering, or no power assist, or hydraulic fluid liberally coating the engine bay after a high-pressure hose fails.

Hmmm...

Well the car had a wheel alignment just days ago. The mechanic said all control arms (after he replaced a rear one) were fine.

I've been hearing some scraping noises near my left front wheel when i press and release the brake slowly... Could have the line for the caliper on the front left wheel snapped, and is gently hugging the disk?

Makes me wish I had some decent tools for working on a car...
