well...i've got 2 kenwood 200W 6x9's and a boston 10 inch sub all in mobile boxes behind me in the car....it sucks always having to take the speakers out of the car to go for a hoon so i want to get some speakers permanently installed in the car, but 6x9's aint gunna fit...and i've heard they dont go well with a sub anyway?
do you reken i could replace the crappy 4 inch stock speakers up front with sony/pioneer 4 inch speakers and loose the 6x9's?
or 4 inchers wont make enough treble/volume to get a nice mix with the subwooooooofeR when im crankin it?

help appreciated guys Very Happy

Jesse.

i dont think 4" would make that much of difference. The better option would be to get some 6" or 6.5" splits. You can try run it with 6x9's, but i'm not sure wat that'd soundlike...if its crap just take them out

You could still put them in if you have space, just for a bit of treble and all...but splits are much better

Try some hi quality 4 inch speakers
if they don't have the high range get some tweeters
but if they still have no effect try some speakers in the doors .
if u want to keep the doors standard for resale value buy some spacers so u don't have to cut a hole in the doors .
Remember the most you pay the better the quality

do the 6" idea but I would continue running the 6*9s. The reason people will say not to run 6*9's and a sub is that it brings the sound stage back because the 6*9's make a lot of midbass. Unless you are intending to go in sound quality competitions keep the 6*9's.

and if possible get some 2 ways splits for the front and mount the tweeter about 30cm higher than the woofer.

Not totally true. Generally 6*9's are used when you don't have a sub, as due to the cone area, they can play a little lower than most speakers. If you have a sub there is no need for the 6*9's to play low and it can also cause cancellation issues. If you want to keep them, it would be best to high pass them with a cap, or external crossover.

Splits would be the best option, however a good set of 4 inch coax or splits will probably suffice. Perhaps run them off a small 2x50 RMS amp. If you are into SQ, you will have a spectral gap, but otherwise it should work fine

how can you get cancellation with 6*9's and a sub? and is it audible to the human ear?

I would rather a cheapish 6" split than the best 4" up front, but that is just my opinion.

If you play a 40hz tone (as an example) the sub and 6*9's will play it at the same time, they are not facing in the same direction, and even though bass is non-directional the wave's can cancel each other out. Try think if a peak and trough of a wave hit each other at the same time, they'll cancel each other out. It can be audible, you notice some frequencies are softer than others etc. Not realy noticable, in a simple system, probably wont notice that much, especially if you are not looking for it. And since teh music is always changing frequencies, it is hard to pick.

Yes, I agree 100% that 6 or 6.5 inch splits would be better up front. I guess I try understand that not everyone wants to cut up doors\kicks to accomodate sound, and they have to fit what they have where they can. In a perfect world, all speakers would be up the front

100W isnt all that much, its probably about 60RMS or so if you have enough power from your head unit to achieve that.

As for the extra $60...i'd say yes. Although if you want quality you wouldnt bother about $60 Razz

PS before you buy them from the store, look on ebay , should be a few good deals on there. Also, if you get alot of stuff from the one place, say strathfield car radios, try to price match it with another store like Ryda or something. (never pay full price Cool )
