22-RE Injector servicing/replacing-if you know anything about this please leave some info to help m

The injectors in my 22-RE are clicking. Does this mean they need replacing?
I have an ultra-sonic cleaner(very good quality one), is that alright to clean the injectors in and how?
Do I need special equipment to install and tune brand new or cleaed injectors at home, or can I get them tuned to toyota's specifications at an mechanics?
If you know any good mechanics near Quakers Hill (where I live),
or Condell Park (right next to Bankstown Airport, where I work),
please leave me a reply or e-mail me at jish_hemp@yahoo.com
Thanks for all your help

You *can* install/uninstall injectors yourself, but I don't know exactly what is involved. Don't do it until you know exactly what you are doing!!! Fuellines are under pressure, etc etc.
I don't know personally, but I would post a question to the Old Celica Club list if I were you (www.celicas.org, goto mailing lists, then 'ask the experts a question' or better still just subscribe to the list.) Lots of people with 22REs who know a lot about them, and people who have swapped in/out their injectors a lot too. Should be able to get good advice there.

Fuellines are under pressure, etc etc, could be dangerous for all I know. I haven't had any more to do with the fuel side of the engine than change the filter.

taking injectors and fuel rail out is a piece of piss, its only under pressure when the car/fuel pump is running.

Well, on my 22RE the system stays under pressure when the engine & pump are off. You have to depressurise the system first by pulling an EFI fuse then cranking the engine a few times until it stalls.
I didn't think taking out the rail was particularly hard, but was just stressing to find out how to do it right first if you haven't done it before.
I know this is off topic but I'm sure I heard a story a long time ago about someone dying from having a diesel injector (or soemthing) go through their hand while they were working on it.

hey dudes
i have a 22re and have a spare set of injectors they are the standard 195cc low resistance type, you can have these for $80 ...i have never heard an injector click before whilst running but i know they do when they are dry and have a electrical current running through them
and for what its worth i was speaking to a EFI specialist recently who has a machine worth 10grand and the only thing it can do is clean the needles in fuel injectors... he said he wouldnt bother to buy the machine if you could just spend 10 bcuks on a bottle of 'fuel injector cleaner'....he reckons it is just a rip off and does nothing, the same as that octane booster shit
hey stef
i have some tech book somewhere on the ra65 says to take out the EFI fuse, take the cap of the fuel tank (this releases soe pressure) and then crank it a few times
i was changing the cold start injector once...as soon as i bought it home and the car was still hot, i didnt do any of that shit and about a litre of fuel sprayed everywhere, some of which went onto the extractors and there was a little 'flash' of fire
whoops !

anyways have fun taking it all out

Injection Perfection is on the north-east side of Bankstown Airport. Go in during your lunch break and ask them!
I havn't had any dealings with them, but was going to go there to get my injectors serviced.

Wayne -
I have been told that wax builds up on the injectors over time. My car hasn't been going so great, and still wasn't after changing the fuel filter so I thought i'd try some injector cleaner. Bought a bottle for $10, added half of it to half a tank of petrol. I do actually think my car goes better now, my idle doens't seem as rough, and there seem fewer flat spots - the kind of things i'd expect to be symptoms of having crap on the injectors.
Apparently there are two types of cleaner stuff - an actual 'cleaner' which is a one-off use like what I used, and a 'treatment' which you are supposed to regularly use every so often kms. The latter is most likely bullshit, I agree.
Yeah,I forgot about writing the 'remove fuel cap part'. What you said is exactly what you are supposed to do. My Hayes manual says to start it until stalls from fuel starvation, but with me it wouldn't actually start at all so I just cranked it for 4 seconds or something (then did it again to be sure). I know what you mean about fuel everywhere - when i did the filter, I was parked on a slight slope. I didn't realise that would make the fuel keep comeing out CONTINUOUSLY while i tried to get the f&*^ing lower fitting off and then get the f&*$ing new filter done up tight. Went everywhere!

Note that diesel engines run massive fuel pressure, as in hundreds of psi. A typical EFI petrol engine will have 35-40 psi fuel pressure, which isn't going to harm anyone. It's still a good idea to release the pressure before you pull the fuel rail off though, just so you don't get a face full of petrol! (Done that, it's not fun).

glad to know im not the only one who works a couple of steps ahead of himself !!
another time whilst installing a stereo into the ta22 i connected all the dash and everything together (so i thought) which is a major pain in the ass IMHO then when it came time to take it for a drive, i was really looking forward to a nice cruise with a bit of music for once, anyway the speedo wasnt working !!...doh, had to take the dash out again to connect the bloody speedo cable !

If your injectors need sevicing, you can buy a set of seals for around the $30. Note that there is either two or three seals per injector. Theres the O-ring at one end. On the other end the seal is made up of two parts. Just goto any brake/fuel/auto electrition. Also the electrical fittings on these injectors are so damn shit. I've done two rebuilds on my Dad's Corona and have just about broken all the plugs.
