Ok, I did a search and came up with this thread...and no answers, so I'll bump it up for some info.
Now my Buddy Clubs, or at least a pair of them have arrived, I'm keen to invest in some lock nuts to stop them going walkabouts (or lessen the likelihood.
Can anyone else recommend a good brand of lock nuts? If so, where can I get them, and what are they worth?
Cheers,
Nathan

Well i cant recommend any but ill help but not recommnding some. I had these ones called Barri Nuts which are round with small spigots at different positions and they were teh p00p, especially when some stupid tyre place used a rattle gun on them. Had to end up using a 2m long breaker to undo, and then threw em out cause the spigot holes were clapped out.

GMH do some factory based ones that are now used on all lease cars to prevent thefts.
They are pretty good, but cost about $50 per set, and they are the right thread as well !!!
If enough people are interested, I can get firm prices using my employer discout !!

I had a look, they're actually similar to the ones I was looking at. While I can understand what you mean, they also look like they could be a slut to get off compared to other lock nuts.
Michael, are the GMH ones factory fitted to HSV's? If so, I'll take a raincheck, I'll never forget CrUZsida seeing an HSV GTS sans wheels on jacks.

Not factory fitted to anything, and AFAIK, they are not fitted to HSV's either

HSV's website says they come with alloy lock nuts (not that it looks like they do in pics)

Yeah, this is why I liked the look of them, they look a lot harder to get off than others I've seen.

I was trying to avoid common ones like these, someone made a valid point that would-be car thieves probably bought a packet of each of the cheap and/or common ones to make it easy to remove wheels.
As for yours coming off real easy...thats scary

it is scary when i work out how rare my wheels are!
but hopefully thievs are smart enough to work out they wont fit on thier commo so they wont take them..fingers crossed
im DEFINITELY in the market for some new ones!
in a perfect world locks nuts would be not required...one can only hope karma kills all of them...

This is the advantage of the Barri nut, cause there is 4 spigots id assume they would just move their positions a bit to create alot of individual patterns. Still I would never ever consider buying another set.

I'd use them
They look damn near impossible to steal.
And next time, ask for your wheel nuts to be put on without a rattle gun.

Don't assume because you've got lock nuts you can't get into trouble.
My mate gets into his car one day, and starts driving home. He's about halfway home when: *Clunk*- the car leans heavily on the left side and a wheel overtakes him, then continues to roll down the street.
Some fool tried to steal the mags. The idiot "would be" theif started undoing nuts until.. oops... here's a lock nut.
*runs* leaving the nuts on the ground.
It pays to look at the wheels before driving anywhere, even if you know someone can't get the lock nuts off.

truth is if someone WANTS your mags they will get them...even if your rim is welded to the fkn hub lol
lock nuts are just a deterrent for little kids with a wheel brace they stole from pick a part...

Even tho they are close to the hub would they affect wheel balance at all ?
I'm going to get 4 different types and use those if i can.
But if u buy a car with them on make sure u get the key nut.
I know of people who have done it before.

Still i think most ppl keep the lock nut key in the car (incase of a flat tire) and thieves just break in, find it and take the rims.

Ultimately it's not going to stop them if they really want the rims, but it will slow them down hopefully enough for them to a) give up, or b) get caught.

if its a issure of brands being too common hence heaps of spare keys around heres an idea
find a brand that dont stock in australia at all from say USA or Euroupe
spend a bit extra buying a set and getting them shipped.
they will be the most uncommon set of lock nuts in aust

Well, it would depend on the way the brand worked - if they all had the same pattern, then yes, not a good idea. If they had 1,000s of diffrerent unique patterns, then it would still work.
Surely all lock nuts within a brand/model don't have the same pattern??!!

'Mr. Lugnut' are the best locknuts you can get.
They are made in USA and are forged and not cast.
About $30 for a set.
Got them on my sprinter.

This happened to a mate of mine. He had his $9000 19 inch mags stolen off his Monaro (and the $400 in 'loose' change).
And guess what? The alarm didn't go off. He didn't know about the 'pressing the lock button twice' thingy. Idiot.
EDIT: Idiot, with too much money. He's glad he drives a 911 now...

i tried to steal the spinners on the "soul plane" but i couldnt do it! they just had too much soul!
anyone who spends $9000 on rims gets a solid boot up the backside from me
a) you could make your own moulds for that much money
and b) its worth more than most peoples cars
and what the hell, c) im a jealous prick, and i call BS on the fact that ive never seen rims for $9000, theres mo substantial market for them :S

Look somewhere else other than Tempe Tyres.
Did you factor in expensive rims + expensive rubbber? Or are you just assuming that noone cares about decent tyres and only wants fully sik rims which are heavier than boat anchors?

i hate to burst your bubble but most of the other guys are right. if someone wants your wheels then theyre almost as good as gone. i took my car for tyres a couple months back and the tyre place didnt give me back the lock nut so i was messing round to get my wheels of and just got a 19mm socket and a hammer and if youve got good sockets then they pretty much just mould the lock nut into a 19mm nut and come straight off. mind you it was a little noisy. as for eldar if u looked how much some of those rays wheels are you would find that i think for 17's or 18's without tyres you will pay about 2g a rim.
at the end of the day just be a little more cautious. park close to the gutter so its hard to jack the car up, park close to your house if not in your living room, and park in busy places. just a quick exercise for you guys to do, if u have a shock sensitive alarm set it on to a pretty decent sensitivity, arm it, and try and jack your car up and take off your rims. id say almost 9 times out of 10 your alarm will go nuts.

They will never be fullproof, the whole point is being like a deterrent. Just the same as an alarm, they want the car, they'll get it.
If you can force a socket over your locknuts, I suggest never buying that brand ever again.
