I'd estimate $4k-$8k depending upon what you can do yourself.

Unless you can do everything yourself this conversion isn`t worth the bother for what you end up with!!

A 1GZ-FE of course. With a pair of GT30 roller-bearing turbos. And a 12/71.

Best thing to do Cheese is talk to a few conversion guys in your local area. Also search these forums and the net for guides (there are a few out there) so you get a feel for it yourself. I will be in Tamworth on the 20th of this month so (time permitting) I'm more than happy to talk more about the conversion with you.
|
yeh i might hit u up fo that chat grant (time permiting lol) but yeh i was talkin to a mate of mine last nite about it and he thinks that a 4A-GZE would b a betta option for tha RA60 coz its lighter than the 21R-C plus it puts out another 50 odd KW but yeh ive got tha idea id im gunna do a conversion i might aswell go all out. another mate of mine is still tryin to convince me to put a 2JZ-GTE in, but yes lots of money and lots of time would have to b spent getting that in.
but yeh neway thanx fo tha input guys

Bang for buck wise, I'd be going the 1GGTE route. 4AGZE wont have the torque neccessary to perform admirably, and the 2JZGTE conversion would cost a small fortune if you were to pay someone to install and engineer it, after purchase price.

You can have my motor cheap, it only has a couple of problems, i.e. there are overt 10 cracks in the head and the headgasket doesnt exist anymore...
Gotta love warranties

4A-GZE would be crap.
2JZ-GTE would ruin the handling.

how much would the 1G-GTE affect the handling?
yeh ive seen a RA65 with a 1JZ in it, tha dude sed it cost $18000 to do.
tha reason my mate suggested tha 4A-GZE was cost wise coz u can pick them up for dirt cheap and i think he was sayin they pretty much bolt strait in

Nark........I`m not sure what would be worth the bother.I think a 1g is a great conversion but if you have to pay some bastard to do it the cost is pretty high, and for the money you could buy a better car.I mean no disrespect to any people who have done this conversion but to spend let`s say 8K on a (drive in, drive out)conversion you`d have to be REALY sure that a RA60/65 is YOUR ideal car that you`ll keep for many, many years!!!
That`s all...

For an 'A' series engine to bolt up to your existing gearbox would need an A series --> w5x bellhousing. Yes, the xA6x celicas did come with 4as in some markets, but I imagine it would be VERY rare. 4As normally came in cars with a smaller gearboxes, so you'd have to downgrade...

Well, my 1G-GTE was heaps lighter than my 21R-C. It's longer though, so that should sorta counterbalance the lighter weight.
No one really knows for sure. It's a MUCH better car to drive with the 1G though!

I reckon a 4A-GZE would be more difficult and cost more than a 1G-GTE conversion.

True, considering $3k for an RA6x and $8k for the conversion, you're looking at $11k.
An S13 would be better value. But every man and his dog (named dorifuto) has one of those.
What else is there around that price range?

I'm doing everything I could myself pretty much, I'm up to $5100 for my engine conversion. This includes my new intercooler, a 3" exhaust and intercooler plumbing, my cleaned injectors, replaced oil seals, belts, cam cover seals, a new clutch, cleaned radiator...the list goes on.
I probably didn't need to do a heap of it, I could've used a standard IC, it all adds up. I was just precautionary.

That first yes should be a: "Depends on how often you want to change a diff".
I'm on my third, but I've had my car for a while, and I don't drop burnouts and do stupid shit like that.
Flatshifting, yes. Burnouts, no.

What about aircon... did you delete yours, Nark? And if so, do you have to?
I assume that a Ga70 or GZwhateveritis would have had aircon, so the barakcets etc woudl be there on the side of the engine.

Yeah, I removed my air cond after a while..
The compressor sat about 3-4mm off the radiator and actually hit against it (don't know when, but I had the marks on the radiator to prove it).

my advise is to buy something that is already converted, engineered and seems to be running well .. u dont make ur money back on conversions so its usually a bargain to buy something rather than create something
also have u considered the time ur car will be off the road ...
anyway ... why would u 1g the ra60 ... 1g an RA65 !!!!!!!!!
