AE82 engineered with GZE yet standard box? Sat, 07 August 2004 05:46 Go to next message
Just wondering if anyone has had an ae82 engineered with a 4agze in it and the original gerabox.

Spoke to an engineer and he said you either need confirmation that the g/box can handle extra power of supercharge/turbo or have a transmission specialist put something in writing (hard to get)..

Would other engineers be more leniant do you think?

I asked him about Turbo kits, and he said that this is the problem with them - and for this reason he hasn't really approved any bolt on kits....

I read in a motor mag that they are bringing turbo kits that are bolt ons for new corollas etc..What's the deal there (Toyota probably provide necessary doecumentation etc I guess)?

The engineer seemed to say your best with the front cut.

This guy was an engineer called Steve that someone recommended on these forums.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

gearbox isnt an issue ive got a 20V box in mine and the engineer only asked cos he was curious. just tell him its an AE92 gearbox if he wont do it. but there is not an issue with the standard bigport's gearbox its ratios are actually better than the 20V for boost.

Thanks mate. This engineer didn't seem too worried about the brakes Confused , moreso the box.

How hard do you reckon it would be to get one passed? Did yours cost a mint to get engineered Alainve?

Am I totally uninsured if I turbo the bigport first before putting a GZE in?
I'm more worried about it being illegal. ie. if hit someone then am I fully liable? Would be running low boost.

I've been having a look at cheap second hand turbo cars and they all sound like they would have had the ears wrung out of them already eg. BOV, 18inch rims, boost controller etc etc.

$270 approx for everything enginered so not too expensive

brakes are not an issue either AE82 front brakes are actually 2mm bigger than AE92 brakes

That's pretty good Smile How hard was the emission test - as my car has got a few ks on it, doesn't blow smoke though. DO you have to rev it out and they check etc.

What was the name of the guy. I really would like to turbo my ae82 as it's a top little car just needs a bit more torque etc..down the track maybe get a gze block. Should I just tell the next engineer that I have used the box from a newer 100kw ae92? They have no way of checking?

I was going to get some ae92 series 2 sx rotors etc which are larger again if I follow through with it.

everything on the car MUSt be legal for it to be engineered. the list price depends on what needs to be done but at $270 mine was fairly cheap.
Mullen engineering is in warners bay/cardiff borderline
noise and wieght tickets are required for engine conversions

So did you get your noise and weight test done before you went to him. Was that included in the price ($270)?

Thanks.

If your just adding turbo do you think you could get away ith not having these?

So all up cost you about 350..

Did your CTP greenslip go up much in price after convo?
