 Anyone been to the Maldives?

Doing some research on the honeymoon location and I'm a bit overwhelmed with the choices!
Can anyone recommend a good place? I only have three requirements:
Separate bungalow (well, it will be our honeymoon....  )
Air conditioning (can't live without it)
Excellent diving (planning to do a LOT while I'm there).

We're both inexperienced divers and from what I've read, the currents are pretty strong in some places which freaks us both out. I really wanna see the cool stuff though like sharks and rays.
Anyway, any suggestions? We plan to spend about $5k on the stay and hoping to stay at least 7 days.

Well if u want diving then the maldives is perfect.
Or you could go the barrier reef if u want something closer and a bit more modern (Ie accomadation,boats etc) but if u like to get back to basics then maldives for sure . Make sure you get a guide of you will most the best pasts.
It's a beautiful place !

palau?
was suppose to go to palau at the beginning of the year, but that idea got shitcanned. some of the best diving in the world apparently... lots of wwii wrecks around, awesome lagoons and reefs. looks likke a top place, and not too backwards.
never been to the maldives, but a friend grew up there, goes home regularly, and the photos are always awesome.

Nah, we want the Maldives 'coz we figured if we don't go for our honeymoon, we'll never go to the Maldives.

Oh, as for the GBR, I spent a week last December on a yatch in the Whitsundays, so I can sorta say "been there, done that" although bad weather stopped me from actually going to the Reef. 
I'll be back there for sure, but not for the honeymoon.
Ed, I've heard lots about Micronesia, but this is a honeymoon first and diving second. We want to go to a place that no other can compare to (as a total package), and that's the Maldives.

I've seen heaps of pics of the Maldives and it looks awesome! Was gonna go there for a surfing trip, not so sure about diving
