RA28 seatbelts after Honda seat conv. Mon, 16 September 2002 00:14 Go to next message
Hello, i've just fitted some Honda prelude seats to my RA28. I made custom mounts to hold the original Celica rails.

Problem is the seat belt buckle/clip things used to bolt to the seats, now the Honda seats do not have this provision.

I was wondering what other people have done? I was thinking of getting the clip style that bolts to the floor, I could mount that to the corner where the seat bolts to the floor so it is a strong mounting point.

Does anyone know a doner car I could get these from? Something that will fit the original Celica seat belt clip.

Thanks
Joel

Hi Joel,

had the same prob with my prelude seats...

there is a set of mounting points under the carpet on your transmission tunnel.....

How high are you seats? heaps higher than the orig?

also you will find that the socket end will be had to reach with the stock 28 socket....

i changed mine for some out of an ra40... these are much longer and suit much better. if you do this you also have to change the plug end on your seat belt. it was easy enough to get the ra28 one off, but the ra40 had to have some of the plastic romoved from the inside of the hole to get it on to the ra28 belt....

any more q's, just ask...

Good luck.

Stew

So you can just undo the bottom mounting point of the seat belt and the clip/plug thing can be removed?

Sounds good. I'll have to find an RA40.

ok i had this problem when I put my seats in, but just got a strip of metal, drilled a hole big enough for one of the floor mounting bolts to go through and put that under the seat so it was bolted in with the seat, then just bent it at an angle and drilled another hole so I could bolt the original buckle to it. a little rounding off with a grinder and a spray with black paint it llooked good.

Any pics of said seat belt swap would be appreciated - I think im just going to bite the bullet abd buy a new pair - then get them modified with the drop down tether from the roof .. A long stalk should sove the buckle issues - though i tried mounting them to the seats where the honda buckles came off - but had no luck ..
