pettie gauge problem?

hey
just bought a 74 ta22 a week ago and the pettie gauge is all f**'d up...
when the tank is full the gauge reads 3/4 full, and then it drops from there, it reaches empty and sure enough you do have another quarter tank to drive around on, however i want this problem fixed... ran out of pettie too many times already
i assume it's either the gauge is screwed up or the floater in the tank isn't working properly...
how do i go about fixing this (mainly referring to the floater)?

arh someone left a floater
Maybe someone bent the arm on the fuel sender(floater) when they removed it or something.
Is it an original dash for the ta22 cause if it's been changed you might need the same fuel sender for that dash.

yeah, original dash... all is original.
better be an original dash, it's f**'d up too much for someone to have replaced it...
so this fuel sender your talking about, how do i check this?
where do i start when thrying to locate the floater in the first place...
have no idea when it comes to the tank part, haven't got that far in my endevours yet.

well look in your boot and under the carpet(if you have carpet) on the right should be a round metal cap with i think three bolts. unscrew this and your fuel sender should be right under it on you fuel tank. just unscrew it and see if it looks ok and been put in proberly

I've been around cars and car-obsessed people for a long time, and I've never heard petrol referred to as "pettie". Sounds kinda gay actually.

well i've heard petrol been reffered to in a few ways...
gas
pettie
go go juice
petrolium
so if people wanna sit there and assign these words their own sexual preference then go ahead, i don't really care.
personally i'd rather just fix the problem i'm having.

never heard of this myself either
anyway fuel sender unit is in the tank, for alot of toyota its under rear seat. just search for it somewhere under carpet. take it out and move the arm c if moves the needle on guage accordingly
