ae86 temp gauge problem Sun, 08 August 2004 23:36 Go to next message
i never realised this until today

in the bottom right hand side there are 2 temp gauges
the left gauge was sitting on HIGH!
but the right ( i think the oil ) was normal
i turned the car off, both gauges went to the left
i turned the car back on, the right gauge went to the middle, but the right gauge shot right up to HIGH

wtf is wrong there?

I think you guys should take better note of the symbols on the gauges.

One gauge is clearly water temp, the far right one I think. You want this to be only at half. If it goes hot, stop driving so hard and let it cool, and turn the heater on. Then check you have no coolant leaks. Or change the thermostate.

The other gauge is oil pressure, not temperature. You want some oil pressure at least, if it shows nothing turn the motor off. Mid to high oil pressure is still sort of ok I think. But if the pressure gets too low, I think there is a oil pressure warning light also.

The other gauge is fuel. Reset the trip meter when you fill up, and note the km it takes to run out. Then tell me what this number is please.
