Another thread got me thinking...
What was the Total number of sprinters ever sold in Australia? (or what total were built for here?). Im talking about an OFFICIAL figuire here. Im sure someone can track it down somehow through Toyota?.
It'd be nice to say 'Australia only ever got 10,000 of these babies'.
Anyone wanna guestimate?

Try the 4,000 mark - although more than 2/3rd have either been assigned to the scrapyard or written off by now ...

dodgy is right
it was around 4000 made, simon has the exact figures
they were so expensive when released so they didnt predict many sales, it was after all the commemorative RWD AE based chassis corolla/sprinter
but that doesnt count the imports of course.

| I don't remember anything about this. I was buying Wheels and Modern Motor in my mispent youth when the Sprinter came out, and I don't remember anything mentioned about limited/unofficial imports of any performance versions. And I have a pretty good memory.

i always hear the same as what Dodge said, around the 4,000 mark. but yeh, at a minimum, at least half would be cubed or wrecked and rusting in backyards somewhere. pity actually, i really like them.
so yeh, is anyone able to obtain EXACT numbers on imports that came into the country?!

There was either 85 or 100 AE-86 twin cams brought into the country, so they could run them in Group A racing & rallying.
That's all.
As for the half-arse Aussie version, I'm not sure but 4,000 sounds about right.
They were about $9500 - $10,000 new I think.

brand new, they were
1983: $13000
1984: $14500
1985: $16000
yes, there were only 4000 sold here, and I'm sure the official number is a little more accurate.
Theres about 1500 left on the roads..
and if you think about it.. we've got five states, and ultimately, that means 300 per state.
thats about right, cause you do see them on the road, but not every day (maybe once a week).

Dude, thats the amount of commodores sold per model type (e.g VR-VS, VT-VX).
I wish sprinters were as common as busted up VLs or VNs.
