hey leigh, any will do the job
2 things i think make up a perfect choice
1. Budget/Cost
2. The tuner

HERE'S WHAT YOU CONSIDER:
1. price
2. availability of good/trusted tuner
3. features (processor, outputs, compatibility, speed, map resolution, display, data logging etc)
4. necessity
5. wank factor
but why are you asking everyone else? it's your decision to make.

well what it comes down to is exactly what you want from the car! do you wanna drag, drive, stock, mix and match, etc
ocne thats determined you can start looking for an ecu. if your not going to do much then leave the stock ecu. if you gonna drag with the car then you will hear microtech would be awsome. some would say haltech is the best, etc etc.
the main ones are HALTECH, MICROTECH, MOTOTEC (is that right), WOLF 3D
you need to know what you want controlled, fuel only, whole system, boost included and that will narrow down your options further
so basically look at what you want out of the car and then look at what you want the ecu to control and manage
and then come back and ask for opinions

nope its "motec" but you also forgot EMS, and Altronic these two are far better then wolf 3d. If you ask me wolf 3d is a chaep copy of EMS with far less functionality.
but as witzl said its comes down to
1. price
2. availability of good/trusted tuner (i would rate this prolly the first and foremost because the tuner will either make it or break it...)
3. features (processor, outputs, compatibility, speed, map resolution, display, data logging etc)
4. necessity (if the motor is completly std... there is no need for and AM ecu, maybe unless you have vvt or a turbo.... even still i dont think you justify spending all that money for the smallest gain in power - toyota and other compines spend millions on the std computer and tuning, so unless you have something modified med - highly then think about the upgrade)
5. wank factor (hey bro i got the ful sik motec in my wrx, wanna race)
hope this all helps

He could have meant "Altronics Inc" but then they don't really do ECU's as such... they do do some cool electronics bits and pieces though!

just depends on what you are going to spend!
look at what the big dollar racers use i.e myself:) motec and autronic and now haltec is under new owners{go polard}. it also is a very good option or if you have a limited budget go microtec, wolf, ems or another cheapy.
as a side note ! i have one of the first motec computers, lmao it is big and looks like an old radio.
