i am not 100% sure, but i think there is a difference between the LSD and non-LSD shafts. i am sure i seen it on a thread here somewhere.

PM Ben Wilson, i am sure either him or his friends have modified a FWD box to fit in the AW11.
i couldnt see that the rwd E51 and fwd E58? box would have different diff centers. so it could be a very feasable to just replace the diff center.

Sorry - I can't help you on that one.

I've got an E-51 in bits at home, but, that's as far as I've gone...

Toby Hunt has some experience with the process..

I'm sure there is a writeup on www.mr2oc.com somewhere.

I have used a ae101 SC box in my mr2, i just used the shifter link from my old 4age mr2 box, The bit that cables connect to.
on front wheel drives it stickes out the back on the mr2 box it sticks out the front, I had to make a blanking plate for the old hole and drill a new one out the front of the box. I also from memory had to drill a new hole through the shaft for a roll pin, need to use a special drill as the shaft is hard!
I Did this with out opening the box just used a vacuum cleaner to suck the swarf away as i drilled very carfully, made a sleave for the drill so I could use the old hole (back hole) as a pilot.
Hope this helps in some way,
I also had to shorten the axles for the narrower aw11 shassis, but next time I would widden the track Smile

Thanks guys,

ive talked to a few peoples about cuting a hole out of the fwd box but they told me it leaks some old from the hole at times.
i also need the drive shafts too. thats why im look for a e51 with lsd & shafts, but it seems that it too hard to find one. ive found a few open ones with drive shafts.

firstly sorry for the double post.
I also don't have any photos sorry..
I don't think you can use the aw11 drive axles because ae101 sc gearbox (diff area) is wider, from memory, also the ae101 axles use a short lay shaft so that both swinging axles are about the same lenght, important in the front wheel drive application.
The ae101 axles are also the biggest I have ever seen, even bigger than the ones on our WRX STI RA (which brake often, but thats 350HP..)
I don't even know if I tried the standard aw11 shafts I must have because before i woked out how to shorten the ae101 ones i was getting desperate, I would have tried them, they just must have been very different, The ae101 hub and aw11 must be the same as I had no difficulty there.

As for leeking oil, I have not had this, as well as drilling the hole through for the shifter shaft, I bored it wider at the out side lip so I could fit in the oil seal. I used a peace of round bar that was the same diameter as the bearing faces on the shifter shaft and drilled a hole throuh the bar to mount a lathe tool (high speed carbon steel) bit, adjusted the lathe bit till it cut the right diameter hole and spun the bar in a hand drill, boring a nice concentric area for the seal easy.

hi,
what you described just sound a bit too complicated for a back yard mechanic. i dont know too much about gear boxes yet.
ive taken them apart but never looked at the shifting bits.
