18rc: 2 litre, RIGHT? Wed, 22 May 2002 13:15 Go to next message
I am writing in to fast fours to abuse a letter writer there, and before I make a dick of myself I want to find out whether the 18rc is actually a two litre, not a 1.8, before i make a real dick of myself.

Just got a mental blank

It certainly is. Some people believe the the letter reresents the engine size. Can get confusing when companys such as Nissan do include in their engine codes

Ofcourse it was worth the effort. All I had to do was write an email. And the rest, as they say, is history. I just wrote what I had to say. Basically, the guy who had written the article kept saying that the 18r is a 1.8 litre, and that the U in the 18rgeu stood for unleaded petrol. I mean come-on. This was in the technical section. And people write in for technical Advice to these guys!?

I agree with Strad. If these dudes are going to give 'technical help', then they could at least know what they're talking about. Do these dudes have any sort of mechanical qualifications? It never sounds like it.

I remember reading an answer in one of those 4 cyl mags that stated some 18R-Gs came standard with a turbo.

ok we know it's a 2 litre but did you know there was an
18rgeudmcjnujsjtjghvj-mark 3 that was released in greenland that was turboed, supercharged, fuel injected, methenol sucking, all alloy, quad cammed, wet sleeved 2litre that cranked out 950hp at the flywheel???
You might only find info on the mark 2,the mark 3 was top secret to anyone out side greenland, take my word for it

Its called Automotive Discrestion

Kind of like how my car had a TRD crank and a Strut Brace !!! Yeah Right !! Hell there was even a picture of the bay i the article.

Problem is the Guy who takes the Photos and checks out the cars isn't usually the guy who rights the text. The Guy who did my Shoot was great ! He knew his stuff, took a great pic and was a good bloke too. The Guys who approached me about doing the shoot were also great. Problem is they get some dude who has never met you or seen your car to right the text. He prolly drives a Stock Volvo from the 80's and thinks a Blow of valve opens when you fart !

Its a bit of a shame really somwhere some 15 year kid just got led right up the garden path.

There also seem to have a bad habit of writing articles and posting picutures of peoples cars without there permission. Namely my car. Didn't know it was going to be in there until I picked up the magazine at the newsagent. I wansn't happy about it.

So true. That's why I don't buy computer magazines anymore either. And I never bought an issue of atomic either because I knew how much of a POS it would be.

Anyways, got a mate who likes quoting magazines like wheels as well. It's a shame the rest of us can't get it through to him how biased they are in their articles. Mostly ford favored. Surprise surprise. The AU apparently can stop dead from 100km/h in 30metres.

Yea. Straight into a brick wall 30metres away. Very Happy

Anways, any chance of a transcript of the article/letter? Smile

Not true, Wheels magazine is in bed with both ford and holden. the commodore shares the falcons pedastool. that's why I couldn't resist buying the issue that read GTS Vs GTR, a shit GTS monaro VS an N1 vspec. Poor holden didn't really have a chance did it. It was a good read though. Kinda makes me want to buy an N1 (anybody wanna loan me 140000K??)

Tim.

The fact that it is in bed with both is even worse. We tend to 'argue' ford against toyota/nissan alot, and lots of mag quotes start appearing.

I guess in that month's edition you read ford gave the most money that time. It's all too biased for me.

Fattony: I never said I took fast 4's as a proper place for technical advice, did I? I was merely flaming them. So shut your mouth.

Whoever asked about the transcript, I will go home and give it to you guys tomorrow. It was more the fact that I thought it was written by a reader that made it more humourous. He thought he was so good, quoting all this letters, when he didn't have half of them right.

And, Gimme one of those 18r-----------------------------'s
