I've got my wheels coming, so I kinda need to know how well 215/45/R17 tyres fit in the celica guards, especially once I've lowered it a touch (2-4cm?) as well.
-Who's been down this road?

why not use a 215/40/17 this is prettymuch an exact match to the stock tyre and it definantly fits under no probs. i havent got min lowered but the 215/40/17 fits perfectly

From what I've been told by a coupla tyre places:
The 40-series 215x17" is way expensive, because it's rarer than the 45-series, and it needs double-layer sidewalls to get the load rating required by law, to match the Celica's original equipment tyres. Of course, the thing only weighs 1150kg, so load ratings shouldn't ever be a problem in the real world. Still, the law's the law.
The 45-series JUSSSST scrapes in the load rating with a regular sidewall, and is more common. Also. I want the extra diameter if it fits o.k, to bring down my highway-cruise r.p.m. - currently 3,000rpm @ 100km/h !!! the 45-series should be about 6% bigger than original equipment, which will be handy for economy and engine lif, methinks.
How does your ride loook with 17's at standard ride-height, toof? got pictures anywhere?

Are you sure that's standard height? hasn't sagged? maybe it's the chrome lips, but my silver coupe looks like it's got a good 2-3cm more clearance over the tyres than your sillycar. Nice work though bro
I've got.... hang on....(runs out to car)..... The same F1's on the front, but in 14", 195/60. $145 each. of course, they're knackered now. hence the new wheel + tyre package headed my way.
I've been quoted a meagre $155 each for Falken ZE-326 tyres, or the same F1's for $190, in 45-series. I don't really wanna pay any more than the bare minimum for the rears, and I'll shell out what I have to for front tyres that brake well in the wet and the dry.
I don't have anything against grip, just that I'd rather be sideways............................

the f1's are a fantastic tyre esp for the price. like i said you should be able tog et the 215/40 for less then $200 and they are a perfect fit.
it is possible that it has sagged a little but it definantly has not been lowered per say.
dont skimp on tyres. put good tyres on and get sideways just have more fun in the process

For sure, the front tyres will be Ace, but the rears don't matter a damn, coz they don't do sh!t in FWD cars!
