Pretty sure it's hunky-dorey for road-reg if it's been engineer-o.k'd and certified. There's heaps of Tarmac-Rally cars around that are Barred-out, and road-Reg'd/.

-I'm no authority though: ask your engineer / RTA

Technically this is correct.

However, their registration may well be "rally registration". Rally registration generally limits them to competing in rallies, and driving to and from garages, etc for maintenance. Apart from these circumstances, they generally have to be trailered everywhere. You certainly can't use a car with rally registration for everyday commuting/weekend cruising.

most want do full weld in! they accept rear weld-in and front bolt. i only know of two that do full complex weld-in cages for full raod rego cars and they only do it for a few people that build race cars etc.

the main problem will be headspace restrictions for the front section and the main hoop.

from the "code of practice of light vehicle modification"
(i apologise for the size)
http://www.materials.unsw.edu.au/~sford/COPLVM-rollcage4.jpg

as mick said, rear weld in (or bolt) with a bolt in front section for 'off-road' is acceptable.

to have a full cage with tubes near your head and A pillars would require some fancy bending and construction to maintain headspace...

see above, as long as it satisfies the head room constraints, and it not a danger in any other way, it should be ok. but please talk to your favourite engineer first.
rear seats = no rear cage unless seats are removed etc.. main hoop can't get in the way of your head either...

If you were in Qld I know someone that can do you a fully welded in cage with side intrusion bar that is CAMS/ANDRA approved, and fully street legal.

Yeah, that reminds me: It's reasonably easy to get a halfcage certified, as long as it doesn't intrude on front headroom, and the rear seats AND seatbelts are removed. Pretty sure most engineers don't even wanna look at full-cages, but phone around to find out fer-shure.

Of course, a half-cage only helps in a roll-over, whereas a welded-in fully sik (sic) full-cage will work goddamn miracles for da little KE20's survivability in all crashes.

KE20's don't survive crashes, althougha full cage might keep the bits together for longer Wink

ahh the price of small cars Sad

half cage mostly just roll only, unless it was well designed and tied into rear 'important' points.. even then wil only stiffen up the rear of the car.

That's what I meant - a half-cage only stops the roof from caving in when you roll. It does nothing in a frontal, or most side-impacts. A PROPER integral cage would survive most crashes, regardless of how the car disintegrated around/inside it. May I suggest mounting the seat onto the (full) rollcage?

if u mounted it externally it would survive a few crashes. We got RV rego for a lada car we rallyied up . i dunno what would happen if we tryed for full rego. the main problem would be if we hit a person they might get messed up pretty bad .
