Ignition Timing, is it Te1 or Tt pin to short to E1 Tue, 10 August 2004 08:13 Go to next message
Just trying to stop the constant (under light load) knocking!
Thought I would check the ignition timing before I strip the injectors.
I have read in these forums to connect the T pin to the E1 pin in the diagnostics connector, to stop the computer interfering.
Just checked and there is no T pin only Te1, Te2 and Tt
My motor is out off a ae101 sc Carolla
That makes it the last generation 4agze.
I'm hoping its not an injector, think it must be Sad , as only one spark plug is worn(melted) on the tip.
Just replaced all four, but still pinging
I have run a few tanks of optimax and two tanks of octane booster, Have heard since that these can cause deposits in the injectors that lean them out.
Ran some injector cleaner but has not helped.
I have not upped the boost from standard but I'm running a bigger inter-cooler, maybe its not as efficient?

So, which pin do i use Te1 or Tt?

Thanks for any help.

Te1 and E1. This allows you to check the base timing in a similar way to timing a dizzy engine when you block the vaccuum line. It sounds like your timing is way out if it's pinging that much.

BTW, if you are interested in details on exactly how the supercharger operates I have this as a pdf download from my site (Tech Data page).

Ok, thanks, I just checked the timing after connecting Te1 and E1 pins and it was at 13-14 degrees, turned it to 10 degrees and ping is gone Smile only slight rattle when I slam the throttle open, could be pinging or just a rattle, hard to tell over the rest of the noise.
Just wish I had checked the timing earlier, I think it may have done some harm.
