V8 MA61 PROGRESS UPDATE...IT RUNS!! VID INSIDE!
|
Tue, 10 August 2004 10:55
|
|
Ok so got all my parts sussed out now,
get all the rods, crank etc back tommorowo...30 tho had to be taken off the top of the pistons for clearance reasons, and to reduce the compression ratio a bit from a frightening 12:1
Provided i get my parts tommorow, motor will be assembled by this weekend. am getting stuck into it tommorow nite and thursday also.
All car work is pretty much done, oil cooler fitted, chev 4 core radiator fitted with thermos, engine mounts and all crap like that is done.
Just require now a strut brace and a few little brackets which cant be made till the engine is fitted.
r154 needs the new washer and then can be fitted. Thanks wilbo for the mz10 xmember!!
As a few of you know i had a heap of parts stolen a while ago, still no word on it...looks like a court job now. That 5k will help go towards the new paint job, diff, suspension and brake upgrade
Future mods after 1000km :
G series MA70 LSD ass end - trying to source a 3.7:1
R33/BA/MX83 brake upgrade
Complete suspension upgrade.
I will get some pics asap. thursday nite watch this space.
For those that dont know, its a hi po 302 windsor.

i gotta hand it to you, she'll be different, and a weapon to boot...i'd love to see this in action
this has probably been covered, but do you expect handling to be compromised? or is the weight difference between your "warm" 302 and the boat anchor 5m-e negligible?
on a separate note, do you frequent(or at least make cameo's) on the ford forums?

i might just pay a visit when she's in
actually, it'd be pretty interesting to see how much your beast would flog my slushbox auto
she should handle quite well by the sounds of it, probably alot better than stock(they dont get the nickname boatpra for nothing )
i know a friend of mine seems pretty impressed with your project(he frequents the ford forums quite alot i think...he owns a pretty clean green ZH marquis that repeatedly shits itself, most recently he's fried his piston rings on the last cruise he went on )

V8_MA61, now don't take offense to this as it's only a question of curiosity, but what made you go the widsor 302 over the 1UZ?
Cost, parts, ford man, something different?

Im pretty sure it would cost a shiteload less to get the 400 NA HP hes after from the windsor than a 1UZ. 1 Cam is alot cheaper than 4 hehe

Actually I'd disagree with that... getting 400hp out of a 1UZ involves head work only, while the 302 is getting a shiteload of custom parts (rods, pistons etc) on top of head work. I think the answer to the question is "because he can".

I wonder why everyone with a 1uz doesn't have 400hp if it is that easy? 190ish kw stock to 300kw is a big jump for just head work!

I didn't say it would be cheap OR easy, but for any modern multi-valve engine like the 1UZ, 100hp/litre is well and truly possible. Usually the mods to the engine itself are limited to headwork (mostly cams), although of course aftermarket engine management would be necessary as well. This is all far from cheap, but I'm quite sure it would be cheaper than what Blake's doing.

Are you going to inject it or run a carby? If you run a carby are you going to be able to get it passed by an engineer? I don't think you would get it passed in NSW, but I don't know the rules in QLD.

What is the 302 out of and what year is it?
If its older than your car your going to have a hell of a time getting an engineers cert as the engine needs to pass a pollution test and needs to be equivelint or better than the factory output
If your thinking of fitting a Holley then forget about getting it rego'd as there is no way you will pass a smog test unless your planning to run LPG
Lpg would be a better option as its cheap and good for high performance engines.

dude, youve NEVER talked about it... youve always just dodged it.
sure, its your problem. but I for one am honestly curious as to how in gods name youre managing to pull it off. if its legit, it open MANY possibilities for cool engine installations that most/all of us would have thought incompatible with our understanding of the engineering process. quit being so cagey and spill the beans...

16holes should be better than a small hole CT26

I am think one of a 1uz into a cheap mz10 i just picked up for a tow vehicle but after seeing that maybe a 350 etc would be more fun and different , hey is not pure Toyota but power vs cost it would win anytime .

Windsors look alot better than clevelands, at least the valves arent all asre about. Can you get shaft mounted roller rockers for windsors? Looks like youve got pedestal cause of the pushrod guide plates

its a modified sump to get it in the car, the belly was too big - had a curve, so we had to get a plate cut and welded in there...will also serve a good purpose for the oil not floating around as much when i take it for track runs
I think you can get shaft mount rockers for them skip..but id have to check on that. Mine are roller rockers..those heads arent compatible with the rail rockers.
Hp flow figures? Dunno really, but i think the engine shop said around 620 or something
Will get more pics of a hopefully complete motor on thursday.
Improvedae86, mate a 302/ 351 windsor would do perfect..forget the chev shit Ford parts are easier and cheaper also.
gotta dummy up my spare block with the r154 in the next coupla days so that is fitted, ready to go.
