ok,
this could well be hitting the stage of desperation, but what the hey!
I'm after some casual/part time employment on the weekends or thursdays lunch till late. I'm a full time uni student, currently studying a graduate degree having finished an undergrad honours degree in 1999/2000.
ive worked in retail for 4 years as senior sales/assistant manager, ive been the aust national factory mechanic for white brothers suspension and hayes disc brakes, ive been the editor of a national mag, ive done labouring, and ive done my fair share of medical research and publication.
that said, i'm pretty keen to try anything, and can pick stuff up pretty quickly. im good with people, have great communication skills, and can run a computer as you like.
im in sydney, so if theres any chance of hooking something up, please, drop me a line at:

If you want you could probably give these guys a call. I worked with them thru my first 3/4 of uni until i got a full time job. They are pretty flexible and you sort of get a choice of what shifts you want to do. Anyway i probably should tell you who they are and what they do...
Playbill Merchandising Pty. Ltd. 94496433
They are concession merchandisers at events held at various locations e.g. SFS, SCG, Entertainment Centre, various theatres, etc.
Primary job function would be selling of merchandise/programs, etc.
Pretty easy job, get to see events you work at sometimes, and the pays not to bad...$17.10/hr or thereabouts.
Anyway give them a call if youre interested. Probably want to speak to Charmian.

My sister does promotional work over uni break and works in a servo between times, I used to fill shelves in a supermarket.....excellent casual rate and all the food you can eat (well sort of). They're always looking for someone, just have to be persistent. If you can get a gig doing something kooky (like building the odd engine, machining velocity stacks, caliper brackets, custom machining), that can work very well too. I don't suggest stereo installs
Short of that, you could always whore yourself!

hmmm stereo installs...
seems ive spent a lifetime doing that... would be a fun thing to do except hardly any places actually doing any acoustic engineering for the install, they just whack in subs where they fit, and whatever speakers they stock in the spots where they fit.
shelf stacking at woolworths/safeway seems like the go at the moment. just have to get some money turning over untill research funding is back in season...

Try a bar or club dude, clubs have long hours and very flexible shifts, good pay and it's good fun...Bars are more late nights only but can be good and entertaining...The main thing about these places is the high staff turnover.

Which means if you put some effort in, you can stay working in a cool place, and you've got a better chance of getting a job because they are always looking to replace someone.

Ed,
Bugger casual shelf stacking, I used to do that years ago while studying computing at TAFE back in 1994, when I lived in Tassy. I'm now a Communications and Information Systems sailor in the RAN. I'm currently working ashore doing shift work, which I hate but thats another story. My navy hours enable me to work a 2nd casual job for a nation wide self storage company. This sales job brings me a lot of satisfaction and I probably enjoy it more than the navy, despite the heavy tax I pay. I'm not a big Sydney fan, but this city has the most employment opportunities for young people so get out there, make some money, and enjoy yourself. Aim a little higher dude than the supermarket scene. I'm sure you have the skills and brains to make your cash an easier way. I spent three years with a big supermarket chain starting with the letter "C" and to tell you the truth it was the biggest mistake I've ever made. I think you need to be proud to tell people where you work, even if its only casual. Good luck dude, and keep hammering with that uni degree!
Justin
ps try the taxi companies, I hear they are needing radio operators and they pay $35 an hour on weekends. If that fails you can always do a quick 6 years in the navy. Its not that bad but I only have 5 months to go! And I'm counting down!!!!
