im pretty sure you cant 'remap' or reburn the rom like you can with the nissan ecu's. Your best and cheapest bet is to get a 4agze ECU from either an aw11 mr2, ae92 or ae101. Thats your cheap option, or you could simple spend upwards of $800 on a piggy back (NOT reccomended) or more for a standable ecu like a microtech mtx8.

you would have to run injectors that go with the ECU (e.g. 4agze ECU requires 4agze injectors, not 4age). you would also need the AFM that came with ECU (i think)
you can't modify the maps in the toyota ECU - if you want modify-able ECU, go aftermarket.

Save your cash and go full aftermarket.
Ask Adam at http://www.justenginemanagement.com/ he might have some second hand stuff lying around, beats paying new prices. Not that there expensive.

I got offered a 4a-gze ecu off a mr2 sw-11... will this be good... and the dude who offered it to my said that i would have to upgrade my injectors and fuel rail... do i have to, i know someone with my engine and the only thing he chaged to put a turbo with 7psi is he put an aftermarked ecu on it... will the gze ecu do the same thing?

The GZE ECU will only work with GZE injectors, with NA ones, you can expect your engine to last all of a few seconds, if it'll even run

I have narrowed it down to either getting an microtech L-8 aftermarket ecu which would be suitable... BUT for a grand by itself and then the installation and tuning on top of that... would just completely blow my budget... SO i was thinking of just getting a ecu of a turbo car with the injectors, computer and afm... all i need now are details, would the gze be the only way i could go or are there other cars that would suit my set-up??? any1 got details or info, any help would be greatly appreciated

As stated before, you'll need afm, injectors, loom and ecu from a gze, it'll be about the cheapest and easiest option. Do a search and see what comes up heaps of info around.

i have been thinking about tightarsery of this kind myself....
Pimpboy has a turbo now, and im wondering if there would be an issue using either the bigport or smallport 4A-GZE EFI systems, particularly in the igntion department?
Im not stupid so i know what i would need from a 4agze engine, im referring more to the igntion maps. would having a compression ratio of like 10.5:1 compared to 8.9:1 or 8.0:1 create issues on my engine with detonation and shite? I mean there would be a fair amount of ignition advance in the GZE ecu's wouldnt there, and wouldnt that cause problems with any decent (above 6psi) boost?
I know its not ideal, but the GZE system (ecu, loom, injectors, MAP/AFM, dizzy/CAS, and coils) is easy to come by and cheap for me.
Should i just bite it and pay for tuning?
