My 2T is fouling the spark plugs with oil and im pretty sure thats whats stopping it from running (it wont start). my best guess is that the previous owner used straight unleaded in it and now the valve guides are cactus. anyone have any other ideas?

i would pull the rocker cover off and replace that little rubber rings that seal the cover toy the head around where the plugs sit, it is a common thing to happen, its due to carelessness when the cover was removed, i doubt it has anything to do with the fuel. i know as my 2t does the same thing but only sometimes (I don't why though), i was the careless one in that case, nnot knowing that they were there. try this as it sis the easiest to fix. if it is due the fuel, get hardened valves and the like, then you can use unleaded and save, save, save!!! so to speak at 1$\litre

i don't think that the WORST valve guides in the entire world would do enough to foul plugs. sure they aren't too cold and you're running it too rich???
you're are not talking about external oil, like doityourself, on the plug are you?

the gas/petrol had nothing to do with it.

whats the correct spark plug heat range for a 2T? i'll check that out and see if it fixes anything. the oil is coming from inside the motor, not from careless installation if thats what you meant. im starting to think it might be down to my fucked choke, i dont have that heat exchange line connected from my exhaust manifold to the auto-choke (custom extractors). rekon that could be it?

my best guess is that the previous owner used straight unleaded in it and now the valve guides are cactus.

A 2T runs fine on unleaded, and even if it didn't, unleaded fuel won't damage the valve guides.

There can be several reasons for oil to get on the spark plugs, and while cactus guides are one possibility it could be other things as well. We can only guess based on the information given though, so you'll have to tell us more. Does the car blow bluish/white smoke when it's running? If so, under what circumstances?

i got the same problem that i just fixed (sorta)

i discovered the same thing a couple weeks ago... wasn't sure what it was, so before i pulled it apart, i went to the wreckers and pulled another apart and grabbed the rocker cover and cactus guides just incase i needed any of it...

i replaced the spark plugs as a thing i always do (since i just bought this car) and after taking off the rocker cover you can see the cactus rings... they weren't sitting on properly, but i don't know if it moved when i took the rocker cover off...

anyhow, when i compared the rings from my new ta22 to the one i grabbed from the wreckers, i discovered that the ones on my new ta22 was skinnier on the inner rim compared to the other one's. i figure someone tried to replace this before and used the wrong ones, so i used the fatter rimmed ones just incase... i still can't get my car going due to other problems, but i think i fixed the problem you have... only prob now is that when replacing the rocker cover i wish i had a tension wrench, as when i start the car oily smoke comes from out of it...

also, careful when replacing the rocker cover, make sure the cactus rings don't move.

everything should be alright.

it doesnt blow any smoke, but it does have a misfire under load at low to middle revs. the car doesnt get run very often, but it used to start regularly on the first kick, these days it just wont start.

OK, oil on plugs + no smoke = impossible.

When you say there's oil on the plugs, do you mean the TOP of the plug (ie the bit you attach the leads to) or the BOTTOM of the plug (ie the bit inside the combustion chamber)?

And if the latter, are the plugs actually wet with oil, or just black?

i mean the electrode part of the plug, inside the combustion chamber. its not wet with oil, but has sort of gummy black shit on it, its not all the plugs, but the non-oily plugs have carbon deposits on them.

is it first cylinder? cause mine is starting to do it again... iv started to notice that the rocker cover is leaking onto the lead and now i have to clean it every morning otherwise it backfires like no tomorrow, hopefully get it fixed on wednesday

also i can notice that the piston on 1st is wet which either means that the cylinder is completely warped or rings stuffed... i doubt rings and more warped cylinder...

anyone got a quick fix i can try? i only need the car for another 6months or so till its off the road and chopped up into pieces... help would be appreciated...
