And who said the yanks don't come up with something original
Basically, a mob in the ststes has ciome up with the software/interface that allows you to use the Nintendo Gameboy as a display screen and a tuning tool. Have a look at the link below

I'd guess that a game boy refresh rate would be pretty good - It is built for games after all

I guess I'm not suprised that they made a gameboy display engine stats. Hell, I saw a gameboy colour linked up to a GPS, now that was cool

thats a bloody good idea!!!
Megaview and the Palm tuning software for Megasquirt are good, but something in between like the gameboy would be great too!!

looking into this a little more..
UMS will be 100-150MHz
MoTecs run 32MHz
MS runs 8MHz
the gameboys have an 8MHz processor (Z80 architecture) which is more than fast enough to run fuel injection as a standalone computer.. IF it has the realtime capabilities (which is why using a laptop is not possible). it probably does not have the hardware to turn injectors on and off (duh), but if it can provide a signal to a FET board, it's possible....
meh, i'll just stick with MS for now but another tuning platform would be shiny!

Stewart,
Pity eh, I thought about this a while ago. Just not enough I/O on the old gameboy.
I did buy an 68HC11 to try and make an ignition controller, but lost interest.

stewart - tell me more about this UMS Palm OS based tuning interface? link?
Im a long time palm user, and have tried a few little gidgets using the palm as a temp probe, also tried an rpm meter - but im totally suprised that no-one has come up with a decent prog to make it into a tuning tool, or at the very least a fancy G-Tech type thing. would be easy as shit. (this is not including the OBDII palm tool thats out there - which is useless to me at the present time)
i love palms!
cheers

it is great to see that it has made it to the car field.
i had read a couple of years ago that the crazy italians with their off tits 18cc scooters used efi and a game boy with cartridge as the tuning medium.
some people are brilliant sure, but really, i think they have a little too much time on their hands lol
