OK, Whats needed to be done to fit W58 from 1GGZE into RA28? Tue, 17 September 2002 03:33 Go to next message
I'm getting a W58 from a 1GGZE motor, and putting it on a 18RGU motor.
Got the bellhousing and everything to hook up to the motor, the question is what mods exactly do i have to do to the body of the car to make it fit? I've read that u have to modify mounts and stuff, but what exactly do i have to do? Do i need to cut the gear stick hole and make it bigger? If so in which direction and by how much? I've read some articles but they're not specific on the GZE type W58. Someone please tell me from start to finish how to bolt the box to the body please.

Thanks
Ben

PS- i dont need info on bolting the box up to motor cause all the bits and pieces(bellhousing etc...) will come with the box to bolt it up to it Smile.

Sorry bro i dont have an answer for you. I Have heard tho that there are/maybe specific different w58's from their time, that have a different spaces where the shifter comes up? you may haveto find which model w58 it is?? iam no expert tho on this jsut what ive read on toymods.
So you can bolt a w58 straight up to an 18RG block? is that the original bellhousing from the 1g/w58 or a combination from the w50 or what?

good luck

I have personally seen at least 3 different shifter locations on W58's, and there are probably more.

This is one of those occasions where you just bolt it up and see what happens. You'll probably have to hack some stuff, but the exact details will be fairly obvious when you do it.

So the fact that its from a 1GGZE makes no difference??? Do they have a specific stick position or anything??
What about the cross-member mount, what will i have to do??

Thanks
Ben

The crossmember you will have to modify like the one in the pic in the articles.

The stick position depends on what car it comes out of.

that's it, it all bolts up and the tailshaft will fit fine.

The bellhousing that comes with W58's wont bolt to a 18R, you need a bellhousing of a R series RA60 (cause they have w57's) the bellhousing of the w57 will fit on the w58.

yeah i know about the bellhousing, and i got/getting one with the box.
Do i turn the cross-member around(backwards), or just drill new holes in it?? I dont really want to buy a auto mount-keeping costs to a minimum. Would the stock W50 do the trick?

Thanks heaps peoples,
Ben

just weld tabs onto the crossmember and then drill them. You need the tabs as it isn't wide enough.
