With a tight budget what is can u do 2 make ur car drift 1/2 decent ? Fri, 13 August 2004 17:57 Go to next message
My car has drifted pretty good so far but i'm wondering is there a few low cost mods that will work on any car ?
I earn like $1000+ a week but i can't really spend it all on my car as i drink quite alot and like to live lavishly;) so any failsafe mods for a basic toymodder would be good just so i have somewhere to start from.
thanks boys/girls

coilovers
front and rear strutbrace
upgraded front and rear swaybars
2way lsd (or just an lsd if u dont have one)

allthough i have no idea what kind of car you have, those above things are the first things u want, before you look at getting more power.

Well there's a good $5k worth of mods there, hardly what I'd call low budget!

Let's look at the low-budget method:
- locked diff (free if you can weld or have a friend who can do it for you)
- uber-stiff rear shocks (re-valve the ones you have if possible)
- big rear swaybar
- dial in as much camber and caster as possible on the front end
- good tyres on the front, and get the cheapest shittiest tyres you can find for the back

This will make your car a horrendously unbalanced tail-happy drift machine for a very low cost. Have fun and try not to wrap yourself around a pole.

I reckon cut down a bit on drinking and save up for the mods...then start drinking again Razz
When you have enough, get coilovers, front-rear strutbrace etc etc

Agreed 100% with Nark... Steer clear of poles and stuff and only do it safe areas...

Mookie, Dimmy is right dude..... Cut down on the piss for a few months and you can turn it into a drift machine from hell as you are earning a half decent wage.

I'm budgeting around $5k max for my 2nd AE86 project just like MR2drift's yellow one - not impossible, roughly:

$1.4k Sprinter + 20v motor (paid already)
$2k suspension
$75-100 T18 rear diff
$700 Used LSD

Anything else would be a luxury / non-necessity apart from the rego costs. I'd allow myself the luxury of a bucket seat plus maybe a reconditioned steering rack + el cheapo paintjob + rollcage. Smile

Of course, having a mechanic as a mate to do some of the work for free helps in terms of labour costs - I'm just paying for the parts really whilst doing whatever work I can myself.

Saving up $5k over a year ain't hard Very Happy

nah its not THAT much

My car:

second hand reco'd Zeal coilovers camber and height adjustable $1250
Front strut brace about $60-120 bucks (came on car)
Rear strut brace: yet to be located
Front and rear adjustable swaybars from whiteline $500.

and if the car allready has an lsd which mine does...

your not looking at more than 2k for the mods i listed, if you need an LSD center add another grand roughly.

thanks guys it's an SA63 celica.
And i will do it in a safe place no doubt i just want it to break traction at lower speeds if it's do-able
I need the car for everyday stuff aswell so it can't be off the show wild. But still fun, I can control it i recon as i have done it b4 and do it alot on dirt.
Thanks guys 4 the info as there is no other place i can think of 2 go 4 this kind of stuff.

For Toyota specific stuff, yes you're correct ... for Drift stuff, try the Initial Drift forums - only because I know there are some hardcore drifters on that site, people who actually can drift.
