I'm assuming you are taling about your catalytic converter, not your exhaust from the cat back?

Check your timing and ignition system.

Im guessing the cat is having a bunch of fuel dumped into it?

you must be running uber rich to get enouh unburnt petrol stuck in the cat.

spark timing might be an contributor (e.g. firing too late at higher rpm), but choice of plugs isn't going to dramatically affect the life of a catalytic convertor.

have you disabled/broken the O2 sensor? ECU might trying to run closed-loop and if it gets erronious or suspect O2 sensor signals it will incorectly fuel the motor at cruise and idle (e.g. ECU might think engine is hovering around stoich, when in fact it's so out of tune, the cat's turned into a furnace).
