custom mounts on the crossmember are the go. They need to come foward about 2 inchs or you can extend your exiswting crossmember

thanks people, do you know if 8-10mm steel flatbar cantilever extension would be legal, bolt to mounts and to crossmember, i should check that out, though it would be pretty much invisible 2 inches is nothing, thats an idea as i cant weld, yet..

My main gripe with mine was the thing handled like a lead tipped arrow. 18R-G is larger motor and will sit further forward over the crossmember, making its additional weight felt.
The 18R-G was great fun in my TA22, don't get me wrong. Unlike the 2T-G, it didn't need a bucketload of revs on board to be fun point-to-point. Still, I ended up wrecking that car and my current TA22 has 2T-G.
I think that if you sell the 18R-G you'll be able to get an equivilent-condition 2T-G which will bolt straight in.

A 3tgte would be better the both. If you could afford to do it
there is a race 2t/3t engine for sale in the sale section and a 3tgte as well

Yes, though either of those will cost more than you'll get from selling a stock 18R-G

im most likely going down this road myself with a ta22...but im using a 18rgeu with turbo...Do u still think its worth it for me. I currently have a ta23 buts its in roughish condition and a bit of bog. I say if u have a ta22 and a 18rgu then do it..but dont go spending money on it unless its a hell fast 18rg

I still reckon that if the TA22 is good and you can make some decent money on the sale of your TA23, then go the TA22. Just recognise that the handling dynamics won't be as balanced as with a 2T, which in turn won't be as good as with a 4A.
With some suspension work it'd do fine, but you'd always be starting out from a disadvantage.

just as a point there were TA22 bodyshape's with 18R's stock. i think they were RA20 or RA21's, something like that and mainly american i think.
one of my mates has got one, left hand drive american import.
just might make it a bit easier if you decide to go ahead, maybe try and get a crossmember from America or something.
cheers

if youre gonna send the money to do this kind of engine conversion you should look at youre other options, as said before buy a good 2tg or even a 4ag with carbs. for the money that will be needed you will be disappointed with the results.
remember that you'll probably have to get it engineered depending on state laws. and cost/problems will always be more than planned. i myself would even dream of doing so much modifications to a TA for such an old motor(and ive though about doing some stupid conversions) . buy something new 4AGE 100kw/20v/3SGTE etc or even sr20/det(easy already rwd) and spend youre money to make something thats atleast semi quick
