There has been many Corona GT models in Japan, ever since the first Corona 1600GT coupe in 1966 with the 9R? twincam motor. In 1978, I am fairly sure there was a Corona GT model also, with the 18R-G twincam engine. But basicaly, anything from a Celica will swap over to a Corona. If your corona has a 18R-C motor, a 18R-G will bolt in easy. I know the 1981 model Corona has a engine bay almost identical to a RA40 Celica, so anything you can do to a Celica you can do to a Corona. The 18R-G is a good historic motor, and looks great in a classic. For best power for your money, a 1G-GTE 6 cylinder will often be recomended. A 13B-T will also fit, and maybe have more power for a few minuits, but won't last or be ecconomical.

Might be thinking 10R, the twin cam derivitave of 8R. Often mistakenly called 8R-G.

No I just double checked, it was 9R. Released at around the same time as the 3M. The two first toyota twincams.
The quickest factory Corona was probably the TT144 GT-T. Either 2 door or 4 door versions. With 3T-GTEU engine. Unless the 3S-GTE was avaliable in a latter model?

I stand corrected. 10R was twin-cam too, according to my data. 3S-G may have been available. TT144 would have been the among the last of the RWD Coronas.
