is there a way to get a car registered that doesnt have compliance plates. can these be made or is the car non registerable if the plates have been taken off for a rebuild and lost?

depends where you are and how good you are at being dodgy, if you can get a car with a Road worthy certificate with the right details of the VIN/ Engine numbers, make sure you get both to make it less sus, get the CTP then go get the rego, tell them the car is outside and 99.9% of the time they trust the RWC and are to lazy to check the carand your sweet, but youll have to get the dogdy Roadworthy, that works in QLD

I went through this about 6 years ago with our Celica. I had the plate removed as there was rust around it and then when it came to rego the car I couldn't find it again. As I had the previous rego papers the RTA simply confirmed the chassis number was the same and it all went through. If you don't have the papers though it will most likely cause some grief but as everyone else has said, depends on the state authority.

If you have proof of previous registration there is no issue. A compliance plate is provided by the manufacturer to state that the car complied with all the relevant ADRs at the time of manufacture, it does not assure on-going compliance.
If your compliance plate is lost and you have no proof of previous registration, then (assuming your car is Aus-spec) you will need to contact Toyota requesting a Letter of Compliance. This 'Letter' like a compliance plate will state that your car was compliant when manufactured.

Hi,
Full import vehicles don't have a compliance plate. In my case I have a letter from the RTA that states the vehicle is allowed on the road. However, it is rarely required as the car has been legally registered since 1982 and all I need to do is re-register each as per normal and all is sweet. Not sure what would happen if I let the rego go out of date. Maybe I would need the paperwork then? In any case, it's much, much easier to keep it registered as opposed to letting it lapse - especially on an import without compliance.

I recently complianced a 1996 bmw with no compliance plates in qld. i just had a letter from the manufacturer stating that the VIN and ENG no was a car that was sold from their dealership with old rego number. i had to sign a stat dec saying that there was no plate on the car when i brought it. other than that i had no problems

I had the same problem with my st162. I think if you have the rego papers and the numbers match up its ok. in saying that i have no idea what month they put down on the pink slip because the rego papers dont show that but the compliance plates do. (i think)

Hi,
Can't you go to a wreckers and drill out the rivets on the comp plate of a similar car, then attach it to your vehicle in the same place.

thats always possible but different numbers andwould cause more headache... i got that problem now aswell. the '22 im building has no complience plates, i got rego papers but iv changed the motor.
so the only thing that will match is the chassis number. iv still got the stock motor but that aint in. but im going to be safe and when it come time for rego ill call the RTA.
if they say no rego then ill number it with the current '22 screw that, besides they are both mine so although technically its a number job its not a stolen car but both mine.

Yes it is possible to get a car registered with no compliance plates, i myself had no compliance plates fitted to the celica when i took it for registration, i acted dumb, maybe cause i am, but the guy looking at the vehicle said it looks like it has been resprayed so therefore that should not be a problem, however your car would have to been previosly registered and your local rta.
