Removing W5? from 4AGE while still in the car

I've got a W5? gearbox with custom bellhousing bolted to a 4AGE in my AE86 and I need to pull the gearbox out to fix an oil leak.
My problem is that I've got all of the bolts out except for the top 2 bolts, but I just can't anything on them. The bolt heads are recessed in the bellhousing so only a socket will fit, but there's only just enough room between the firewall and the bolt head to get the socket on, no way near enough to get a socket with ratchet on.
Is it possible to get the 'box out by itself or does it mean dragging the engine and box out at the same time? Is there some fancy tool available to get those bolts out?
Anyone else got any suggestions?

I have a similar problem with my Supra. I've had the gearbox out more times than I care to recall (don't ask) and my solution was to tilt the engine back as much as possible, which makes the upper bolts accessible from under the car. You may need to use a fairly long socket extension and uni-joints can be useful too, but you'll probably find it's quite possible with enough patience and care. Just remember to disconnect anything from the engine that doesn't have enough stretch in it, eg exhaust, radiator hoses etc.
Good luck!

Yup, I've got the same problem, I've got a W55 in an AE86, I find that I can get it if I undo the engine mounts, and put a jack right under the front corner of the engine, tilting it back. It's all tight, but it is doable.

Thanks Guys, you've saved me some time and effort there. I'll give it a whirl next weekend.

Possibly. I bought it from Cathy Donohue in Canberra in early 2003.

Yea, I saw an AE86 rally car for sale in Ballarat in late 2002 and decided to sell my Datsun 1600 rally car. By the time I sold my car, that AE86 was also sold and I was without a rally car. So when this one came up on www.rally.com.au, I got right onto it. Ended up buying it from just the photos.
But very happy with it other than being a bit heavy for just the standard 4AGE.

from what i recall my brother drove this car and said it was 1 of the best prepared cars he had ever seen apart from the gearbox gap between gears was to high and the car felt like it was loosing power"no offence"

It is certainly very neat. I had the engine dynod but didn't find any more power. The rev limiter was at 6,500rpm. We reset the limiter to cut at 7000 but put the change light to 6,500rpm as max HP (62rwkw) is at 6,200rpm.
With the underbody protection, the steel cage, the W5? and G series diff it weighs in at 1050kg before the crew jumps in.
Charades I compete against have better power/weight.
Haven't done anything to the engine since, but I now have adjustable cam sprokets, redline manifold and a set of dead 40mm webers to make QTB's, ready and waiting and I'm looking into a set of wade cams, something like 288/272.
