the 4AC motor is it the same mounts as a 4K-C??? isnt the only differnce is the overhead cam? is it true that the 4AC is the same bottom end as a 4AGE and would it be possible to fit into a KE55 or would ther be too much fucking around, i mean i could find a reasonable 4age for bout $1500 half cut, or put $1500 into a 4K and get sweet fuck all back for it, i need power desperately, ive never owned a rear wheel drive car that wont smoke the tyres when i dump the clutch, help me solve this shitty no powered engine problem pleaaaaaase.

It's a bit more fiddling than an AE71, but stick a 4AG in there, it's not too hard, and well worth the effort for a cheap runabout thats still a bit of fun to drive

I seem to recall you can put in the AE71 front end as well and get rack and pinion steering.
Was a long long time ago but recall it was no problem. Along with an AE 86 rear end was a great car

Buy a 4A-GE, and a T50 gearbox from a AE86 or AE71 corolla. Lower both into your KE55. The KE55 tailshaft should fit. Workout where you want to motor to sit, then spend 2 hours adapting/ makeing new engine mounts. Easy. Then just start connecting up all the other stuff bit by bit. It can't be that hard. Maybe you have to cut the hole for the shifter a bit further back, or use the gearshift housing from a TA22/23 Celica.
Don't bother with a AE71 crossmember or rack and pinion. Its too different and alot of trouble to change over.
(The standard KE55 leaf springs may let the diff tramp a bit. Either don't do burnouts, or make the leafs realy stiff, or get tramp rods of some sort).

If you use the AE86/AE71 gearbox I don't think the tailshaft will fit - output splines are different I think. If you use the TA22/23 gearbox then yes it will fit, but you'll need the bellhousing off an AE86/AE71 (I have a jap-spec one for sale if you want)
