hmmm........gasless mig`s aren`t good for panel work. They work on the same princible as an arc welder. You`ll end up blowing holes in your work.....go for gas for sure and practice on some similar material to get your settings right before you attack your bonnet!.....the mig might cost you around $100 for the day so maybe it might be easier and i know it will be cheaper to take your car down to your local engineering/metal fabrication place and get them to do it???......just an idea!

well its not for my bonnet, its just i'm using parts of an old bonnet for my materials, see i'm welding up the pan hard bar back onto the body of the car and not many shops want to touch it and the ones who do want to charge heaps one place said $350 another said $750 Shocked cable ties are holding it in for now so that just shows its not a part which needs a great deal of strength, just something that will last

Shit!!!...those prices are outrageous!!!If you were in melb i`d do it for ya but.......anyway i`d go for the gas mig welder for sure.....just practice on something else first to get your setings and to get used to the mig......it`s not hard but welding is 99% practise.........good luck

also just for the sake of telling you,

Pedders quoted $350 and told me i have to leave the car there and wasn't going to let me drive it back home and was saying he was going to defect me, so told them to get stuffed, mida's didn't want to touch it and told me to find someone else, one body shop said $500 and the last place i went to said $750 and when i told him my Pan hard bar mount has snapped off he went in and looked down at the gas pedal, he had no idea what the pan hard bar was Shocked as if i'd get him to fix it,

i don't see what the big deal is, if a few cable tie's can hold it together why can't they just weld a little metal plate onto it Confused

Well its time to teach myself how to weld Evil or Very Mad

also by the way how much would a gas mig welder cost to buy?

i`m amazed that cable ties are holding it together!!!....it is dangerous so get onto it quickly!!........umm....to buy a decent single phase mig (240amp)..you`d be up for around $2300 all up!

You'd maybe pay $2300 for a mig if your career/income was dependant on it!!
I've got a 150amp Telwin, cost $800nz, I does everything I need it to, rollcages, engine mounts, panel work (which I'm not very good at), exhausts.

And as for holding your panhard rod on with cable ties, Dodgy comes to mind!! Does the backend wander all over the place??

And I wouldn't bother with the gasless mig, Does a nasty job, gas is heaps better.

The old Bonnet material will be too thin, If your old mount broke then you'd want something a little more substantial.
Stop buy a engineers shop and go through there bin, find some 4mm plate.

the cable ties are holding it in alright and stops the backend from moving around but i don't drive it hard around the corners in this condition, i cut bits of the old bonnet out and it doesn't look that bad, like i don't see why it wouldn't hold as a cable tie is holding it in for now and once i weld a 2nd plate onto it then i'm welding the bolt to the remaining part of body it should have a bit of strength in it.

plus i thought itwould make it easier to weld as they are the same type of metals.

plus i know its dodgy i say that to myself all the time but its all i can do at the moment, i don't have a worry of the car loosing control as i know that wont happen unless your really puhing it i'm more worried about damaging other parts of the suspension and so forth.
