i just installed a second hand carb i got for my 13t-u, rebuilt it and modded it to fit a 2tg intake manifold. the problem now is even though i've adjusted the flaot levels, accelerator pump lever arm, sync, a/f screws and idle, the barrel for the first piston is still back firing. which in turn causus the exhaust to back fire as well under load. any ideas on what's wrong? btw the vacuum advance is disconected and the timing set at 10 btdc and the setup has airhorns and no filters.

It probably have a air leak. Take the carb off the manifold again, clean both surfaces, and re-install with new sealant or gasket. Do not use silicon as the sealant. Use a paper gasket with No.3 or No.4 gasket sealant.
And make sure any unused vacuum ports are block off.
