As you may or may not know, if you are on Optus broadband you can kiss it goodbye...

Check this out...

http://www.optus.net.au/Vign/ViewMgmt/display/0,26 27,1031_26119-3_25746--View_303,00.html

I suggest you make a complaint like the 800 or so people from www.whirlpool.net.au already have with the ACCC at this address...

http://203.6.251.7/accc.internet/contact/contactFo rm.cfm

What pisses me off the most is this quote from the Optus site....

QUOTE

OptusNet Cable currently offers one plan only - Lightning Fast. This means that customers who use a lot of data each month currently pay the same as customers who use very little data. By providing different levels of service based on the amount of data consumed, customers who use relatively small amounts of data can choose a plan more suited to their needs. Those customers with larger data requirements can also choose a plan to suit their needs.

UN-QUOTE

I ask, which person complained? I can't see any that have on any sites. All I can see is people complaining that the new prices are a rip-off and all that Optus is doing is shadowing Telstra now with pricing plans....seriously, for the same price now all we can expect is 3gig a month. I think they forget why people sign up for broadband...fools!!!! This is just a corporate push to get more money out of us!!! I am looking for a new ISP, anyone recommend one? Perhaps DSL?

Please forward this onto everyone you know and I hope everyone files a complaint!!!

Cheers,
Phil.

Say 'NO' to Optus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is really, really bad...

I've been recommending Optus cable to everyone cause it was by far the best service, but now I doub't I will even keep my own, will return to my modem for home and rely on work for fast downloads.

You're right, what a lame excuse. Notice that it's not getting any cheaper, just more expensive!! If their BS excuse was correct, then they'd be dropping the price for the low end users, not raising it for the high end ones!!! It's just a plain case or ripping of their customers.

The other thing is, at the moment they dont even tell you how much you are downloading in real MB terms so you have no way to figure out what new plan to go on, which could end up being costly (like my friend at work, who just got hit with a $1000 Telstra cable bill).

What a pack of bastards. I'm going to cancel my pay TV, phone and everything, see how they like that.

Screw Optus. Got my mobile bill this week, they've jacked up my peak time call rates without informing me. the lying mo fo's said they mailed a price change notice months ago but that's bullshit. I'm pissed off coz comparing this month's bill to one from late last year, i made half as many calls this month and was on for half as many hours, yet my call charges worked out to be double of last years bill. I been with Optus for 5 years on the original contract but I will soon be switching to another network. Any suggestions? The orange Just Go plan looks ok but i been told their reception is worse than optus (which would have to be pretty hopeless).

Yes they can. it's written into the contract that they can change it with 3 months notice. And I got the letter about 3 months ago they refered to about the pricing changes.

Not sticking up for them .. Just saying they did send a letter (came with the bill I think) and they do have a clause which allows them to change rates mid contract.

As myself being on telstra adsl, (I joined while they were still uncapped last year). I could only just sit back and just wait for it to happen to optus (singtel), to start capping as well. It was just a matter of time for the natural laws in australia to kick in.

Those being, going backwards and charging more for less.

In the end though, you can blame your fellow warez monkeys for screwing it up for the rest of you.

Yeah, I ended up signing up for Telstra cable the other week. Works out alright for me because I've got a mobile plan with them as well as the house phone, so we get 10% off across the board.

When I was working out what I was going to choose, my mates were all telling me about these new cable/adsl ISP's with 12gig limits for "only" $10 more than the $87.95 for Telstra.

I decided to go with Telstra because they are reliable and like Apollo said. People are going to abuse the service, therefore, its inevitable that the other ones will follow the lead to Telstra and now Optus.

It happened to me with dial-up too. When I joined Dingo Blue it was uncapped download limit, unlimited hours, unlimited connection time.
This was abused.
They put caps in place to stop people downloading 24/7. Still fairly high caps for 56k though. 400 hours and 3gig.
This was abused.

What happens? Dingo Blue are closed down now aren't they?

The best advice I can give you is to put all your paid bills in a safe place.

The automated billing system isn't perfect, and twice within the year I've been on adsl, I've had to pull bills out to prove I've paid them. Nothing is perfect, I'm just giving this advice just incase you need to save your arse.

You'll notice a HUGE decrease in phone bills. We went from like $50/month down to like $23-25 a month.

i noticed that my brother got this thing in the mail for the optus mobilenet that said that they're extending the peak time to 8pm. how dodgy is that? at least telstra has kept their peak time at 7.
