gearing questions regarding supra tranny vs my gze zenki AE86

I have the chance to buy a 7mgte supra tranny, 5spd. I'm unsure about a few things. Ive done research and i can't tell if its a w58 or r154. All ino is that its a jdm version from that supra motor. I can get a bellhousing that will mate any w series tranny, is the r154 just a renamed w series? Or is the bellhousing completly different. Another thing is that what is the shifter position on these two trannys and what kind of gearing will i get from my 86 corrola gts? Will it be to tall to short? I'm told the stock t50 with a gze boosted will be very busy with alot of shiftin.
Thx all tommy

I thought only the R154s came behind the turbo 7Ms, so I would guess you have an R154. You may well know more than me there though.
As for the T50, I use one with a boosted GZE and find the ratios are fine. First may be a little short, but beyond that its all OK. If you want to make the entire box taller or shorter think about changing your diff ratio instead.
With the stock S-series rear end it pulls around 3500 at 110km/h in 5th. Giving a max speed of about 220-250 depending on fuel cut.

IMHO, it would be major overkill to mate the T series motor to the R154

My thoughts still stand. The W5x box will be plenty

Ive been lookin for a w series trans, but i stumbled upon well a free tranny. The free tranny looks like a R series so maybe now u know where im comin from lol. Anyway, a freind of mine has a few old coronas and a few old supras. I think the supra is an 83-85. I dont know which motor is in it yet, im going to check tommorow, but im really hoping its got a w* in it. "crossing fingers"

An 83-85 Supra will have a W58 in it (provided it's manual of course). Grab it if you can, buy an off-the-shelf conversion kit, and bolt it in. Note that you can't get conversion kits for 4A -> R154, so bin that idea straight away. Using an R154 is silly anyway, it's probably bigger than your engine!
