That why i said change the pulley over from the 4ac onto the 4ag alternator, should be able to use the same belt then maybe??

my sprinter seems to run the fwd water pump, alternator and multi-v belt as oposed to the stadard single v and the alternator that i have on looks very similar to a 4age one. only problem is the waterpump outlet is right in the way of the alternator (it hits it).

hmmmmm good point, i never went as far into it as that, effort factor was too high plus my alternator was working fine i had two 1000W amps running 2 12' subs and a set of 6x9's and i used to have that runing all the time the only time i notice a problem wsa when i had the headlights on my foot on teh brakes and whn the bass hit the head lights dimmed a bit and teh revs droped about 100-200 rpm idle was at 900rpm normally but give it a bit of throttle say 1500rpm and it was sweet as, i havent changed the battery in it since i bought it 3 years ago now, well i got a new battery for teh 4age just to be on the safe side . hey u wanna buy mine??? my 4ac's been outta the car for about a month now and was running sweet as before hand its done 178,000 k's PM me if ya want

Hmmm, I guess i'm just going to have to get one from the wrecker and go by trial and error. I was thinking maybe of even a 4afe, if they exist, from a standard rolla...
I'll post up here when i find out..
Hunty: Thanks for the offer, but i already got a 4ac sitting in my garage
Check this link to see it with nice fat holes either side

If it can fit, you should remember that you have to change the wiring slightly. 4AG alternator uses an internal regulator wheras the 4AC has the external one. Its not hard or anything, just not a direct plug 'n' play

Yeah, I was thinking about that.
When did they bring in internal regs and can you just bypass the original reg??
Wouldn't it be nice if all parts were universal

Yep, you just bypass the external regulator. As far as I remember There are 2 wires that need to go from the chassis loom to the alternator (it has a 3 pin plug, the 3rd one comes from the power out).
Oh yeah, 4ages have the alt on RHS(mine does anyway) wheras the 4AC has it on LHS... I dont think an alternator will fit among all of that crap on the inlet/outlet side of a 4ac. Also fitting the c pulley to the ge alternator and using ge brackets will very likely skew the belt ie. the pulleys will not line up.

Just curious, i know the 4ag is also set up like this, but has anyone had a problem with water getting into it at all, cos its mounted lower?

as stated above it has a multi-v belt and the water outlet is just above the alternator. i think the entire setup is from a fwd but i still have an engine driven fan. where would the external regulator normaly sit? i dont think i have one anymore.

Original reg sits just above the coil, behind the battery. Little metal box with 4 wires, i think, going into it.

OK, just got a an alternator off a 4afe. Brackets are gonna need a bit of manipulating (read: angle grinding ), but thats the easy bit.
Any idea how to get the pully bolt off without a rattle gun??
And does anyone know how to bypass an external regulator...or would i be better off getting an auto electrician?
