Heat shield fabricating

I'm going to get my car engineered (gulp).
Spoke to the fellow, and he said I'm going to need to have an airbox fabricated around my pod filter.
Do any of you guys know a good place to get fabrications like this done? Can be metal, plastic or fibreglass according to the engineer. It's NOT allowed to be heat-proof rubber (before all you do-it-yourself nuts chime in).

This is what I plan to do for an airbox:
1. Construct two "walls" out of cardboard, in such a way that it encloses the front corner of the engine bay around the filter.
2. Take cardboard to engineer and have the shape copied in stainless sheet.
3. Install stainless sheet using suitable bracketry.
4. Glue rubber strips to the upper edges so it seals against the bonnet.
5. Congratulate myself on being the man.
I have no idea if this will pass engineering but it should work pretty well.

I already asked about doing pretty much exactly that - he said no he wouldn't pass it
Needs to be "enclosed on all visable sides with the bonnet open", Which sadly includes the top. I don't quite understand why, because the bonnet makes the top, but that's what he said.
sigh

Either that or, make your shape up, but leave little 1cm "wings" like you would if you were making an origami thing which needed gluing (contradictiory i know), then you get another piece of alloy and use small flat headed selftappers and screw a lid onto the frame.

In some magazines I have seen some cars with actual airboxs which can house a pod filter inside them and are shaped like a pod filter. I am searching for one at the moment but haven't really found anything as yet.
If you can find one like that it beats getting one custom made.

ffs, how hard can it be to make a BOX!!
a VN airbox is about $30, has dimensions 180x210x290mm and should fit a 5-6" diameter pod with little difficulty.
looks stock, sounds stock, can't be refused for rego, and if shit hits the fan, stick a stock panel filter in there, which should flow as much or more than a pod anyway (or at least what you need...
or just walk around a wrecker with your pod and physically stick it in airboxes and find something that fits..
it's a BOX

Dyga & Greenwell (or something like that) in pendle hill. This guy is just nuts. Rock yup, tell him what you want, that it's no great rush and hell say $50- or so wait a month and it's done.
I just got a s/s cabinet built. 304, 6ft x 3ft x 2ft, other quotes from $3000 to 12000.
Him $500-
It seems that as long as you don't mind waiting that it just gets done whenever and suitably priced. I'll look up hte details, Pm me if you want them.

MA61,US131,UZZ31 and a few other toyotas have round airboxes perfect for a pod inside and they sit on the drivers side behind the headlight with a cold air induction scoop to the front of the bonnet.
could you make it look any more stock than that?

Not an option for me sadly. BARELY have room for a pod filter in there, let alone a box to go around it. That's why I have to get one fabricated around it.
Any other good metal workers/fabrticaters you guys can recommend?

I've got the same problem. I wanna heat shield my pod and there's no way i could get a standard box in there. My pod BARELY fits in. I had to move my battery forward a few cm and "customise" (belt it with a hammer) the metal strap over the battery so the pod would fit.
I think the way to go is just to get some sort of metal and make the box.
Good luck dude.

It's all good - My airbox has been fitted and for only $200 bucks. Awesome workmanship, and all custom aluminium. The guys that did it were "Groove Ryder Fabrications". They're aluminium specialists. Let me know if you want pictures or the details of the guys that did it. I couldn't be happier - passed my engineer cert too!

I also want this done.. can you show some pics?.. my pod rests right against the engine bay on one side and against my IC piping on the other.. so a box around is gonna be hard.. will have to make holes for IC piping too
pics would be awesome!
im gonna make my own, just side, side and down to bottom of engine bay below(about 10 cm under pod), use the hood to enclose and run a cai to it.
my car is already engineered so i should be okay

Here's mine:
And be careful with leaving the top open (sealed by the bonnet you said?), because they can actually defect you for that, regardless of an engineer cert. According to guidlines it must be sealed on all sides, including the top, from the rest of the engine bay. It's pretty anal I know, but that's what they reckon.

that looks pretty trick..abit big for my liking..but i'm sure it works quite well..just one question though...if you wanted to check your air filter..do you have to take the whole thing out or what? it looks like its rivited in..

Oh no, it's very easy - those aren't rivets. They're little alan-key bolts. It's stupidly easy to get in and out.

looks like some quality workmanship there.
I will need to get on to this in the future. Or maybe, just cut a hole in the bonnet and stick the pod out the top
