18rg head removing/installing advice Thu, 19 August 2004 10:57 Go to next message

hi,

my 18rg head is coming off tomorrow. I have information from manuals such as head bolt tension, tightening pattern, cam timing, etc.

Is there any other advice people can give from experience?

do i need to recheck the head bolt tension after running for a bit?

in the book it says to put sealant on three points, i can see two points are probably for the timing chain cover joint... what's the other one? it goes over a hole.

cheers
Chris

Use Hylomar on the new head gasket.

Re-tension after 500-1000kms by marking the top of each bolt with some white out, undoing each bolt and re-tensioning in sequence (only undo one bolt and re-tension it at a time). The white out is to see if the bolt screws up any tighter. On mine I got about 1/4 more turn on re-tensioning the each bolt.

Smile
