1JZ blow off valve

Hi, I just wanted to know a bit about the 1JZ stock blow off valve. I have heard that its fully plumb-back and wont make any sound, but Iv also heard it makes a sort of "transformer" sounds . If its plumb-back, I really want to get a GFB Mach 1 BOV or Blitz BOV, any recommendations about these? I love the blow off valve sound
Cheers

You twin turbo 1jz is MAP sensored, so get any old BOV you want and plumb it in - it doesn't have to be re-circulated. The stock one makes a bit of noise, especially if you have an open pod filter but it's nothing great. I had the older style HKS "Super Sound" trumpet looking BOV because it came with the half-cut - it made the psssschht noise that you're seeking.
You are probably going to get nicely flamed for posts like this
Non-factory, non-plumback BOV's are illegal in SA, so you'd never get it registered/engineered with one on.

I wont flame you for it, but i do have one question, do you want a Atmo Venting BOV for the sound or to "save" your turbos??
Go for it dude, when you do it can you tell me how you disengaged your stock BOV??
Becuase i would like to put my BOV from my 1GGTE on my new motor when it goes in...

If you're just doing it for the sound, there's no need to disable the factory BOV.
You'd also be a riceboy.

Really, I have been in contact with Transport SA a few times about some things I want to do before I get my car engineered, and he said that as long as I put it on (say any BOV from GFB or turbosmart except the supersonic ones) before I get it engineered, it will be fine :-S. In Whyalla there is 2 WRXs running GFB Basic's, a Mazda 929 with a Mach 1, R32 with a Blitz BOV, so the cops must be heaps slack here lol.
But any more informarion would be great, is anyone else having the same problem?

Whats wrong with being a rice boy? hehe. I would rather be a rice boy than a Holden fan-boy I have heard some contridicting views on the use of after-market BOV's, thats why Im a bit confused about whats allowed and whats not
I know for a fact thought, that it seems like P platers get picked on no matter what, so If its legal, I might as well put it on anyway

It's not legal in SA. You won't/shouldn't get it engineered. I had to take mine off and put a cover over the hole to get it through Regency. Even then they noted "blow-off valve hole covered" on the inspection sheet. Keep it looking stock if you want it to be passed.
I always found the sound a good laugh, esp when overtaking V8 Commodores. Pull alongside, change from 3rd to 4th with plenty of psssht noise and watch them fire up. After 2 weeks you'll be over it though. There is no performance gain to be had by having one (unless you're current one leaks at high pressure), it's there to prolong the turbo life.
I re-iterate - you will not pass regency with it on (even though your car is MAP sensored) and you can get defected with one (even though I never did). That's it.

plus if you get a free flowing air filter and a plumb back, you get a great noice anyway, just not "ricer" loud. Plus plumb backs are more expensive to buy/fit, which is another reason most people go for the high want factor ones.
btw - factory 1jz BOV tends to be inadequate at decent boost levels

Thanks for clearing some info up for me guys.
By the sounds of it the stock 1JZ has a fairly unique sound of its own lol, hopefully the stock one doesnt leak, if it does leak how do I replace it with another stock BOV?

Decent boost levels would be in say the low 20's would it?, I was afriad that the stock BOV couldnt handle high boosts, but the 1JZ turbos can only handle about 15-17 max from what I have heard

If you want to be safe, get a GFB Stealth/FX. You can adjust the BOV from fully recirculating to full blow off and anywhere in between. They even make a 1JZ specific adapter plate for it.

decent boost is over 1 bar ... BOV starts to struggle (mine does anyway, could be dying)

as far as it goes for noise(as all performance aspects have already been covered).. with a pod filter the noise is adequete without being gay

Do you get a loud turbo flutter with a pod filter??
I know that on my 1GGTE it was pretty loud and sounded awesome...

as far as im aware turbo flutter comes from
1, not having a BOV at all(hence when let off accel, the throttle closes sending back pressure up against compressor wheel slowing it down rapidly and making said noise)
2, having a fucked BOV
just goes pssst
