1GGZE Bellhousing to G52 Gearbox

Hey all,
I was hoping someone can tell me what bellhousing I need to join my 5 speed G52 gearbox to the 1ggze engine. The g52 is out of a hilux 4x4 and the current bellhousing is larger in diameter than the 1ggze mounts.
So anyone know what I am looking for?
Also, depending on the bellhousing etc, what flywheel clutch setup do I need? Can I retain my Hilux HD clutch?

I have been told that the 1G bellhousing off a W55/57/58 g/box would work, but cant find any further info on it.
I remember being told about a few 1ggte converions to toyo 4x4's and I am certain that it wasn't a custom job.

you've got me thinking now??? I've based my initial reply on the thought that the G series Toyota box is basically a R series box as found in MA70 Supras (ie, R154), and in being so, has a different style botup pattern for the bellhousing. Having typed all that and thinking about while doing so, I'm 99% confident I'm right, but am willing to be proved otherwise?

Ok just called a mate, who says he is definate his Bundera has a G52 box in it (and he has the 1ggze engine). He bought it with the conversion already done, and doesnt know what the bellhousing is. He is certain it aint custom though.
Anyone?

perhaps the G52 boxes are more like the W58 boxes rather than the R154, especially if it is an earlier model hilux.

Yes, G5x boxes are closely related to W5x boxes and I've heard (but not confirmed) the bellhousings are interchangeable.
The commercial versions of the R154 have a similar model code, eg R151F.

Ok, been doing some net surfing at work and found.
http://www.4wd.net.nz/suprasurf_part2.htm
The next one is the W55.. close but no cigar. It will fit on the hilux G52 or W56 gearbox but not on the 5M-GE. But if you want to use the 2.0 litre DOHC 6 cylinder 1G engine from a Celica this is the bellhousing for you.
So its a W55 bellhousing then. So can someone tell me what these are common off?

Ok adding to my own info here, (waiting for someone to confirm or not).
The W55 housing is interchangable with W56 and W57, so I should be able to use anyone of these three for the G52.

u may be confused here
this website is saying that u cannot use a 1G bellhousing on a 5M-GE engine
BUT
the 1G bellhosuing will bolt up to a G52 transmission which is what u want!!!
good luck with the conversion looks like a major issue sorted
this would be good information for the sticky threads up the top of the tech section.

Not confused, just answering my own questions and thinking out loud, waiting for someone else to chime in.

My sons mate is currently fitting a 1G-GTE to a 1984 Hi Lux 4x4.
The Hi Lux came standard with a 3Y. We have used a 1G-GTE /W57-W58 bellhousing.
regards Chuck.

Answering Tonka's thinking out aloud questions, by reading this thread, it seems yes, you can bolt a 1G bellhousing up to a G series gearbox - though as Norbie states: I've not confirmed it either. I stand corrected on the gearbox series and style, let us know if it is a definte bolt up swap?
